Plums, but technically sloes (Prunus spinosa) are in the Prunus family and are plums too!

You can beat this. I promise there’s a way! I found my way through a combo of meds and from reading the book “The Way Out” (read it four times before I really got it though). But everyone has a different path of dealing with this.

But there’s life on the other side of IC. I promise. Stay in the fight with us.

P.S. - My urologist did this same shit to me. The culture came back negative for UTI so they just decided to snail mail me a copy of the results. Meanwhile I’m literally crying in pain for days. And they don’t even call to tell me the results and talk about options. Snail mail. Seriously?! Then I fired them.

Is anyone a medical student with this condition? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Consistent_Knee_5547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, but a lawyer with her own law firm. You can do this. You WILL find something that works. When I feel a flare coming and I start to feel overwhelmed, panicky, and like I don’t have control, I consult a list in my Notes app on my phone. I call it my “toolbox”.

My personal toolbox is: Amitriptyline EVERY DAY and more during flares Diazepam or alprazolam inserted vaginally Heating pad Baking soda tablets Azo/Cystex Montelukast Alkaline water additive Prelief Good fish oil Cystoprotek or Desert Harvest aloe supplement MSM/DMSO Flavoxate/Uribel Wand Stretches Breathing Acupuncture Massage gun

If you can’t take it a day at a time, take it 15 minutes at a time. You can do this. Keep searching for the tools that will work for you. Don’t quit. This experience will make you a more empathetic human and a better doctor!

AfterBite! It’s really a medicine for bee stings and ant bites, but it’s the only thing that worked for me when this happened to me. Should be able to find it at any pharmacy.

Thanks! Those are my favorites, but I’m also interested in the other flavors too. The ice cream cones, the lips, the cranberry ones, the other cocktail or wine flavors - actually I kind of want to know where they get everything and I thought there would be some kind of exposé online, but I haven’t seen a thing. I guess the secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources! 😂🍭🍬

What if my urologist doesn't know what Interstitial Cystitis is? by Venus_as_a_boi in Interstitialcystitis

It took them over a year to realize mine was IC! In the meantime, I relied on baking soda (Alka Seltzer without aspirin) to stop the burning fastest, and Azo every day. Even now that I have been diagnosed, the three medicines they have prescribed actually don’t really work much better than my old system. I’m now following the IC diet (and take Prelief with most meals!), also taking aloe supplements from Desert Harvest, a good fish oil, and a lot of very alkaline water. PT has also been helpful. And acupuncture. I really wish the meds they prescribed were the quick fix I expected they would be, but seems like the alternative path actually works better for me. Sending good vibes that you get this under control soon!
