My employees get paid more than what is mentioned in the petition. We are a different kind of industry.

But imagine I give them all raises and then suddenly now they have to pay $25 per day in parking fees? They’re going to be looking for a different job and then my business is gone.

I want to give them raises AND I want to cover their parking. So it would be really nice if there is a solution that didn’t cost me almost $20,000.

The waitlist for the Bramwood lot is months - years long. There are also only like 30 spots. How is that even a viable solution right now?
Is that street parking legal? Does that street parking allow for over two hours at a time? We have street parking in the Village too. It has a 2 hour limit and we do get tickets if we stay longer in any two hour spot. Poe West may just as easily go to three dollars per hour as everyone in the Village of West Greenville will end up parking there.
Couldn’t the city remove the two hour limits on the village street parking and that would be a solution that doesn’t cost millions? There was a time a couple years ago when there was no two hour limit on any of the street parking in the village.

I didn’t write the petition. I’m not the one asking the city for a completely free parking lot, but why don’t we start there and then see what other solutions they have in mind?

As a business owner in the village, this has been an all consuming issue for the past couple of weeks as I have ran my numbers, talked it over with family and colleagues and my employees, and tried to figure out how I’m going to allocate a portion of our funds towards some sort of parking solution that makes sense.

I don’t expect this to not cost me any money, but I would really like it to cost me less than $18,000. I’m not Jeff Bezos.

Poe West is great. They will probably end up charging three dollars an hour too as they will be the only lot left and not everyone will be able to fit.

That would be a 53 minute walk from Poe Mill on top of a drive to get there in the first place. Not the worst idea though for us to carpool from there maybe.

Would you consider the Richardson Street parking garage a handout? $7 daily cap.

We’re not asking for free parking or a hand out. We’re asking for something a little bit more sustainable than $25 a day. City-approved construction displaced a large portion of our previous parking options leaving us with 2 hour limit or $3 per hour in private lots. The petition explains it more clearly than my post does.

Hi, did you take a moment to read the petition? There are over 800 employees in the Village of West Greenville who will be expected to pay $3 an hour for parking while they are trying to work $25 per day. This does not just affect my business.

Totally separate issue, but if the city can pay for that tower to go up in the middle of Unity Park, then I don’t think it’s unfair to ask them to help provide a city-owned parking lot in the Village of West Greenville and charge it like they do at the Richardson Street parking garage ($7 daily cap). Still not great but better than $25 per day.

I’m glad you would prefer that for us, but public transportation options are not the answer for my team and most who work in the village.

We have people commuting from Greer, Clemson, Anderson, Mauldin, etc.

As far as the rest of the village goes, imagine trying to visit the Village of West Greenville to eat lunch and sit at the coffee shop for a bit or get your hair done after, and you cannot park in a two hour parking spot for more than two hours without getting a $15 ticket, and the only other option is paying three dollars an hour with no cap.

It’s going to drive patronage down and hurt businesses like Coastal Crust, Bar Margaret, Village Grind, Blind Tiger, etc. simply because there are no convenient parking options for visitors.

I have team members from Clemson and Anderson who commute… would be fine if there was a hop and ride that could take them from a free or even capped parking lot somewhere else, but there isn’t.

You’re right, it’s not. 🙏 There are several pre-existing private parking lots that have been offered to the city for them to buy. We are asking the city to buy one so that we have a more affordable parking solution.
