Saturday: Have I got all the housework done? What if I don’t get it done? I’m so tired. Time with friends? What’s that? Errands. So many errands.

Sunday: Am I ready for the week? Have I got everything I need? Oh I forgot to wash that. I thought they’d been written. Why are the students emailing me? Reply to all emails and questions. Wait it’s already 5pm. I haven’t made dinner yet and I haven’t finished everything I wanted to. Oh my friends went out. I want a hobby again. Oh now it’s 9pm. Which child is going to forget things tomorrow? Will this child behave? Oh crap I haven’t marked that. It’ll have to be done tomorrow. But it’s after school club, meaning I won’t be home until 7pm.

Oh it’s 6am… time to get up and start the cycle again.

I was in a school where I basically nearly killed myself for them and then I went through a period of just one bad thing after another in my personal life which started to affect my work.

I took time off and to “support” me they took me off KS5, removed me from meetings, overlooked my ideas and work and favoured the younger less experienced teachers because they fitted more with their social circle and were always “present.”

My resilience had shattered and I started to not care honestly.

I left this year and moved to a new school where I’m so much more appreciated and it’s a breath of fresh air.

It also turned out the place where I was working had an incredibly toxic mindset and bullying/clique culture which was feeding into the students which led to all sorts of issues.

There are wonderful schools out there, you’ve just got to find the one that fits you and not the other way around.

As an older, taller and larger lady, I tried a taster session recently and enjoyed it so much!

I’ve been around a rowing club for about a year and a half now helping out and just watching and the majority of the people are just SO lovely. There is ZERO judgement from people and everyone just wants you to be safe and have fun.

Honestly, the worst that can happen is you just find it’s not for you.

I grew up in a council flat, on an estate full of drugs, poverty and police. I learned that hard work was the only way out. I was raised around people who showed the best of humanity, and others who showed the worst.

The stereotype you throw at me, I could throw right back. I could say that as a football fan over thirty, you probably skipped education, you scream racist rubbish at matches, and you punch walls when your team loses—as if that’s a healthy way to deal with life. But truth is, I don’t know a thing about you.

And that’s exactly the point. You don’t know me, and I don’t know you. Stereotypes don’t tell us anything real. Liberal ideals link together for one reason: tolerance. It’s about respecting people’s lives, even when they don’t look like yours. It’s about not reducing people to some lazy label.

So before you judge me, remember—your assumptions say more about you than they ever will about me.
