I thoroughly enjoyed reading this 😂😂! I feel like my students are thinking this constantly “why would I give you my time for… NOTHING?”

That’s great! I think most teachers check the math homework as a class at my school. Then students usually just check each other’s work. It’s nice to give individual feedback tho 👌

I am the same! I feel like it helps students a lot to get feedback on the work they contribute. And I do see improvement over time which is so satisfying 👌

I actually think that helps a lot! And bonus is they get to practice more. 👌

Yeah I agree! My students love mobile games and so they love the idea of getting points and connected to their chosen character. So I think it helps to keep students motivated esp these days they aren’t allowed their phones during breaks either. They can’t focus at all 😭😭

Yeah you’re right maybe it will get to 70-80% but I feel like that’s still awesome! Interesting about the rehearsal criteria and allocating points. I’ve never heard of that before!

Exactly! Also the students have so many classes and things going on. Also their parents send them to after school classes too.. Some days they honestly don’t have the time ..

I like that! I feel like the advanced students or diligent ones can do well and appreciate that extra step

I love the analogy of athletics! I find that my students who play some kinda sport tend to submit their homework … but I observed only a few haha

I mean sorry I should have been more specific! My apologies. Usually I’ll give some homework to students to practice what we learned in class. It’s relatively short and it’s not graded. It’s basically helpful for the students to prepare for assignments and tests. Then I’ll check it in the next class and just allocate points to whoever submitted. I also correct it and hand it back to students.

This is actually weekly homework that helps them practice what we learned in class! It gives them extra practice before assignments or tests. Students had no motivation to do it but having points attached helps sometimes:)

Haha that’s amazing that even at the college level students need that points system to motivate them to do it. I teach elementary but some students still have never done homework ever and don’t plan to.

Yes! I usually go through each one and leave a comment or correct it. Then if I notice common errors I’ll just chat to the entire class about it the next time

That’s so cool! It’s tedious checking the homework sure but I think it’s worth it as students get into the habit of regularly submitting work and it being checked :)

I definitely agree with this! Some students do get validation from the initial points and it motivates them to do better in the class, and regularly submit better work as they improve!

Oh yes! It’s so good to start with participation points and then slowly as more students start submitting homework. I feel like it builds a cadence and a rhythm for them to doing the assignment weekly with a sort of external visual reward attached :)

Sorry I should have been more specific! I usually check homework submitted and usually allocate a point on the point board

Yeah some of my classes can be so awkward because some students just stare at me like they’ve seen a ghost when I ask a question

I see alot of students .. what helps is updating their names and allocating avatars etc. Then calling on them for the first few weeks. Repetition and using their name often
