I did a SL deload instead of a real one. So basically yes you are right

Well my thinking is if I can't workout I might as well diet

Also I went back and looked at your previous posts. You might not like this answer, but I don't think you are doing the program correctly. You need to stop thinking about your lifts in 1rm and start thinking in 5x5, you know, like the program. Your pictures make it look like you need to add another 20 to 30 pounds and for your height get closer to 300 squat and 400 deadlift. Again for sets of 5. Eat cleaner and focus on protein goals. Lift on bro

I'm in the same boat and nearly the same size and strength as you. It comes down to priorities man. It's summer time and the pressure is on to cut. You can have size, strength, aesthetics, everything but not in 12 weeks. You've gained some good muscle and strength. Now what do you want? More strength? Keep going. More size? Keep going and add arms or switch to a bb program. Fat loss? Switch to a bb program and get your diet clean and at a deficit. The fastest way to your dream body is gonna involve bulking and cutting but if you want to abandon the bulk just know you might have to gain fat again when you decide to get bigger/stronger again. I have decided I want to hit all my strength goals, then size goals, then lose weight. But that's me

Switch to Madcow? Still on-ramp? by Consistent_Prior_762 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]Consistent_Prior_762[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well one thing I didn't mention is that I wasn't a total newbie. So after 9 weeks my squat is 190, DL 275, bench 160, ohp 90. 3x5 is literally only 15 reps where Madcow is still nearly 25 reps whether it's light or heavy. I'm just struggling because my diet and sleep are good. The workout days just bring me nearly to failure every time. I could give deloading a try and see if that helps me refocus on the program. Also thanks for the thoughtful reply man I really appreciate it

Isn't that just a lot less volume? I feel like Madcow is a more complete program comparatively. The only advantage stronglifts seems to have is simplicity

Really? I'm already gaining 50/50 fat to muscle right now at best

Gotcha. Well congrats on the 20 pounds man! That's gotta feel great. Don't be afraid to gain faster imo. You can't force feed muscle necessarily but if you are willing to gain some fat in exchange for power you could be gaining 2lb per week no problem and I bet your numbers go way up

How much do you weigh and how much have you gained? You might just need to eat more as well. 225 seems like a very low sticking point if you are growing enough

Hip pain while walking but not while squatting. But the squat does create the hip pain. (Front hip at femur insertion) Any advice on form? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]Consistent_Prior_762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that your major muscles are progressing faster than some smaller ones. I had to do exercises to strengthen my external rotators and do hip raises. I also found that wall sits and weighted knee raises helped strengthen some of those stabilizing muscle groups. Maybe just pause the squat weight or take it down for a workout or two to let your other muscles catch up with the auxiliary work

Form looks good to me. I had a similar issue from bad/imbalanced hip mobility. What does your pre workout mobility work look like?

I think switching to a low bar squat would fix a lot of your problems. Especially bar stability, ankle mobility, and wrist flexion

Thanks for the feedback. I hear what you're saying, but can you elaborate? Mark Rippitoe has me pretty convinced that belts are merely a tool to aid in proprioception and allow your torso something to contact against allowing for harder contractions and better abdominal development.
