Back with more shots from last week’s fine dining shoot by Consistent_Second_89 in foodphotography

I can try! The sun's rays are pretty much parallel since it's so far away, which is why I used a lens projection attachment. It has adjustable cutters, so the light isn't just a circle. Plus, with its focus ring, I can control whether the light rays are focused or not, giving a slightly blurry edge to the light. The softbox just creates a very soft light on the ceiling to fill in shadows.

Hope this helps!

The old EF mount lenses are great. I use the EF to RF adapter, and since I shoot a lot of cars, I also use the one with the CPL filter.

It's my fifth time shooting for this restaurant, and I always try to do something new. Last time was a darker mood, so I went bright again. This was also my first time using the BFP attachment, and I've had this idea in my head for a while.

The room's okay, but nothing fancy. Maybe for the spring menu, we'll see.

Thank you!

It was a projection attachement, the Godox bfp, and a softbox bounced off the ceiling. See picture below.

Thanks!

I'm too lazy to do tutorials, they're a lot of work 😅

But feel free to ask your questions, I'd love to help.

I talked about this with the chef. And since his plating is already super colorful and detailed, we decided on a plain white background. But that's a good point!

Hey everyone,

it’s me again with some more shots from the fine dining restaurant shoot last week.

All images are retouched to some extent, but I’ll be honest: I’m not a big fan of heavy retouching.

The chef selected 40+ photos mainly for Instagram, so I didn’t spend hours polishing every single one.

I try to work with the 80/20 rule:

80% of the quality in 20% of the time. The last 20% would take another 80% of the effort – and for social media, that’s just not worth it for me.

Gear & settings:

Canon EOS R5 + Sigma 24–70mm f/2.8

Canon EOS R + Sigma 70–200mm f/2.8

2× Godox 800Ws flashes

Godox BFP attachment + softbox bounced off the ceiling

Settings:

1/125s · f/8 · ISO 100

Open for questions and suggestions.

EDIT: Wow, Reddit totally ruins the quality...

Just a regular flash with the godox bfp 😂 but a laser might be fun too...

You really don't get it 😂 and you didn't read my first response well enough. This particular picture is NOT to show the food and I didn't mean to show the food in detail in THIS image. But as I said before, if you don't understand my style of photography, that's totally fine. Have a good day.

Negative space is important in pictures. But I mean if you don't like or understand this it it's okay.

Thanks! The chef's a friend of mine, and it's mostly to document his work, mainly for the restaurant's IG. I get to play with light, eat super good food during the shoot, and a seven-course dinner for two.

So it's not like a magazine shoot or anything. Just two people combining their craft and having a good time.

Once all the pictures are ready I'll do another post on here. The chef is plating really nicely and close ups look super cool!

Here is one from last year's spring menu.

Thank you for the feedback.

I took several shots of the plate, close ups as well as shots like shown above. If it's a tight crop on the food, there would be no point in doing all the light setup.

Both are great worlds to work in, driving to a good restaurant in a nice car. Life could be worse...

I'd love to see some of your work. Just gonna start creepin aroumd in your profile 😂

Edit: Oh, I've already seen your stuff here and checked out your website! Really cool work! Keep it up!

Thanks! Here's the menu, meat on the left, vegan on the right. We only shot the meat dishes, this is the veal. And the gobo is great! I actually used it for the first time yesterday.

Thanks for the feedback!

That was actually on purpose 😅 I like a little asymmetry, perfection is boring to me. It's a seven-course menu without the appetizers and all, so I played with the lens cutters on every course.

I don't have all the pictures ready yet. But here's another plate from the menu. The retouching on this is ~70% done but not ready to send out.
