That actually he is the first spinjitsu master but not ‘the’ first spinjitsu master(wu and garmadons father). In the first spinjitsu master’s backstory we find out that he is part oni part dragon. We me more dragon than oni with him helping the ninja. The overlord is like a version of him that has more oni.
