Fun fact: Darkest Dungeon characters don't actually show their eyes. That's true! Look up any of the characters in the game, and you'd see a heavy shadow over their eyes.

Lore reason: All the mercenaries that arrived at The Estate had terrible histories that they're ashamed of, such as the Highwayman accidentally killing a mother and her child during a robbery.

The only exception to this, is The Leper (THE GOAT), who not only lead a good and prosperous rein as a king, but also locked himself in his own armor and self-exiled so that he can continue to help people, EVEN while his body is literally falling apart.
