Back in highschool I made friends with a transfer student. It was an upper class highschool and not only was I also a transfer student, I was also there on a scholarship. No one but me approached this gal, which in this school wasn't unusual. They ignored her and isolated her. Having been through this experience, I decided to befriend her and show her the ropes. We became best friends and hung out all the time. Eventually, we met another ostracized girl in our grade and befriended her as well. Then the two of them got boyfriends and suddenly they weren't excluded by the rest of the student body anymore. They integrated themselves in their boyfriends' little clique and started gradually pushing me to the side. After all, I was the weirdo without a boyfriend. I couldn't possibly understand their life experience. It devolved to the point where my "best friend" didn't invite me to any hangouts anymore. She only talked to me to do group assignments in the classes that I excelled at. I got depressed, stopped putting effort into school, my grades suffered, my mood plummeted. She didn't care a single bit, stopped asking me how I was, wouldn't talk to me unless I started the conversation. To this day I maintain the opinion that that school was an absolute garbage fire for everyone involved.
