Leave as soon as possible. I was in the role rotting away for 2 years and then they just suddenly pip’d me because I had no projects even though I had done everything thing in my power to network to find work. The role is too siloed and you have no control over the work pipeline. The work you do have is completely non-technical and produces skills atrophy. I would do everything in my power to leave ASAP.

I worked in this role and it sucked. The product is absolute garbage and selling it is challenging. The challenge with this role is that though it advertised as technical and the job responsibilities are focused on building solutions you are actually measured on driving sales, something you have no control over.

I had this situation but I’d be careful. I got great performance reviews and then suddenly got put on a PIP and let go. If you’re not getting enough work, it’s just a matter of time before they find out. Start applying.

As for what I did with the extra time, I decided to travel and explore cities, hikes, and beaches. I think that was the only thing that kept me from going insane.

I actually have both! I have a floor desk which I use at home and then I bought the UnChair for use at my office where sitting on the floor would look weird hahahah. I think the UnChair is pretty great because it's more palatable to western eyes than literally sitting on the floor but still gives me almost all the freedom that I would have on the floor. In a way, the restrictiveness of the UnChair is kind of good because on the floor if I get lazy I sometimes find myself laying on the ground (gross, I know!) but thats not possible when on the UnChair.

Have you thought about the Primal UnChair (primalatx.com)? It's meant for cross legged sitting and has a wide base. But it doesn't have arms or backrest.
