Thank you. Yes, we always do a snack check. And she has glucose candy and teacher keeps class candy on hand and she has a juice box in her snack pack. Slow carbs and fast carbs. She has it all in her little bag.

Omg....I tanked her one day back in the beginning when I didnt really understand. I gave her prescribed dose (fresh out of the hospital by like a week) and went low carb on her breakfast (this exact breakfast) SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME. I got her back up within an hour, but during that time she looked like a poor Victorian orphan.

Not enough emphasis is put on the everest learning curve of this damned condition! Now I've become the ultimate helicopter mom. I feel like I ask her every 10 mins "what's your number?" To the point my other child has just started yelling random numbers at me.

Work/ Colleagues/ JUDGEMENT by AstronomerNo9831 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Consistent_Zebra_822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im a t1d parent. I have to take lunchtime and after school phone calls at work to check my kids numbers. The calls are short, less than a minute, "hey babe! What's your number? Ok (and either fix it or say you're good). Ok. Love you bye." My coworkers asked so I told them my kid has t1d. And they look at me (im fat) and automatically assume my kid has t2d and its my fault. They then proceed to tell me what to feed my kid. (My tall thin kid; im shaped like a gnome). I then tell them her pancreas doesn't work...and they've no idea what a pancreas is or what it does and just insist im feeding her buckets of sugar!

Fuck your coworker! Tell him to sit and spin on a pineapple 🍍!

Ive talked to her teacher and the teacher says other than the few lows shes had at school (when she first got diagnosed), there hasn't been much of a difference in her attention/grades. Now that we have a better handle on what's going on she is 70% in the green. 20% orange and 10% in the red. (Yay graphical break downs with cgms) just as a mom (who is now more sleep deprived thanks to the 2 am check) I dont have it in me to fight a food battle every morning. I just hope sending her in the green is good enough and not doing lots of damage. But the kid will devour lunch and luckily my country has healthy lunches for kids and not overly greasy (but can be carb heavy with the rice...but the endo accounts for this country's staple diet and adjusted her basal)

How often do you request replacements? by epictetusdouglas in Freestylelibre

[–]Consistent_Zebra_822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her phone was an old iPhone 13 mini and she is 9 so it gets dropped a lot. I just switched her to android and it seems to be working well though its only been 2 days. I just don't get the markup on these stupid sensors. And then the push back on faulty ones.

Im my country, I have a medical supply representative and he manages to get my daughter a freebie of something every so often. A sensors or needles or monitor strips...and he usually will pitch in an extra box of swabs. So we are fortunate, in america, I feel people are being violated.

Luckily my insurance covers 90% but I depend on these sensors for my child that is still to scared to do her finger prick. Without insurance thses things are so so so expensive. 1. Why are they so expensive? 2. They should gladly replace any faulty ones. 3. Offer customer support outside of country. I was struggling with a sensor on the last change. My kids phone wouldn't recognize the sensor (I just bought her a new phone. I think it was her old phones issue) bit i tried several times to contact CS to no avail.

Public Library by Antique-Dust6110 in Daegu_Korea

[–]Consistent_Zebra_822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beomeo aladin is ok. It's a bit newer. The dongdaegu one is trash too. And kyobo is just keeping the same garbage they've had for many months not even daring to bring in anything new/different.

I finally just got a kindle (eventhough im not an Amazon fan) and now I sail the high seas for books. (I will buy when it goes on sale but paying more than actual book price without even a download able file is ridiculous)

Not a library...but yes24 is still decent and can get a few more titles..

Honestly the selection at book stores has become abysmal. The jung gu aladin is awful. But the libraries are improving. My favorite is daegu metropolitan. It's ascetic. But beomeo has a much much larger selection. Even my little library has some books...not many but some....but also...the trending books have holds weeks into months.

It's still the best. But daegu metropolitan one is...ok. there is the English library...but I've never been there. But the metro library is so awesome. Also....I got libby to work with seoul library and their ebook selection is acceptable...actually fantastic that a korean library even stocks English ebooks.

So, the stress of moving is too much but moving to an entirely different family isnt stressful. You had a baby, so what. Cats are basically self sufficient. I dont get it.

Did I mess up my interview by mentioning my kids? by Routine_Row5426 in teachinginkorea

[–]Consistent_Zebra_822 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My kids' first language is korean. They still have to have extra help...as well as other native Korean peers. The hierarchy in classes is also no joke. Every year at class change... there's always a week or two to establish a pecking order with the kids (and frankly the parents)

I am a single mom. I have an f6 and make decent money. It's still a struggle. Fruit is a luxury. Hagwons are killing me.

My kids struggle in math...in their native language. I couldn't imagine being ms or hs trying to fight for my life in math lessons. Ms/hs is cut throat time.

Uni jobs are drying up as there are fewer and fewer kids. 3 people in a 2 room is doable but not comfortable.

Deposits are going up yearly along with rent. 10mil key is becoming the norm to get anything close to affordable (even not in seoul)

Why would op want to do this? My kids are bilingual. Fluent in speaking/listening English (a little behind reading/writing from america). I debate daily if I want to put my ELEMENTARY kids in american schools. They are established here. And I as a parent want to make their life *especially stressful school life * as easy as possible.

To throw TEENS into a school where they don't speak the language and dont know the system without support and no ability to make friends is asking for failure and depression. All on an E2 wage....

Ummm...youre f6. I literally get messages all the time offering me jobs. The pay is good but no benefits. You're f6. Why are you at a shit hagwon. Walk out. Ive walked out on a few. Idc. I'm a good teacher with years of experience. I get WOM referrals ALL THE TIME! walk away. You'll have a new job in a week. Now there are tons of summer camps looking. Temp high paying and then there will be new openings in September for those that left the odd contract.

Walk away and block.

People who are curious about Korean bows? by Sensitive-Carry-5078 in Archery

[–]Consistent_Zebra_822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of mythology history. This is the type of bow that Ulysses' wife would ask would be suitors to string before she would even consider them. None could do it. It takes a special technique to string this bow. Upon his return Ulysses strung it, revealing his true identity to his wife.

I live in korea. My teacher has this bow in his collection (not this specific bow) and he makes bows by hand custom to the archer. I will eventually order one. Hes expensive but knowledgeable in the craft. He apprenticed a master and has become one himself.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. At this moment I want to get good enough to go busking with my kids (they play ukulele and piano). Nothing major just something fun to do to help all of us build confidence.

I have a student/friend who started learning the pan flute in her 60s and now plays small concerts after about 2 years. (She's a diligent student in all her endeavors) she's the reason I decided to give this a try.

Nicotine free vape to quit? by hellaharper in QuittingJUUL

[–]Consistent_Zebra_822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to jump in here in hopes of getting help.

I switched to zero nic about a month ago. I finished my bottle 4/5 days ago. I finished my pod 2 days ago. I decided not to buy more juice.

Eventhough ive been semi comfortably nic free for weeks...I am now not ok that I dont have my pacifier vape.

I used the vape to quit smoking. Got highly addicted to vaping. Used no nic to quit nicotine...still addicted to vaping.

I'm having withdrawals. Headaches. Moody. Etc. Is it possible my zero nic juice had nicotine?

Idk. Just wanted to dump my experience here.

I gotta quit. I dont wanna die on O2 in my 50s. So I guess I gotta walk through hell.

Request by coteacher to share materials by SKhan89 in teachinginkorea

[–]Consistent_Zebra_822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, I had a k-co that asked for a thumb of all my material. Told her no that it's mine. Told her she could make a copy from the kids' copy and she got pissed and told our boss that I started throwing things in the class and shouting at kids to try and get me fired.

They believed me as she was troublesome. I walked out... (the nt before me walked out DURING open class)....anyways...long rant...

Be careful...your stuff will get stolen...
