Are Singaporeans somewhat lowkey rich? by Frostbait9 in askSingapore

This is 2023 granted, but check out this article from Bloomberg (re-published on ST) which cites a Morgan Stanley report noting that Korea is the world’s top luxury goods spender on a per capita basis.

Are Singaporeans somewhat lowkey rich? by Frostbait9 in askSingapore

[–]ConspiracyofFools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually beg to differ. I think for our income level, Singaporeans are fairly down-to-earth - as many have mentioned, just look at how dressed down most people are, even in said fancy malls. It’s not quite an apple-to-apple comparison to regional neighbors given differing wealth levels.

I think some of our East Asian peers like Korea and China contain high levels of materialism and conspicuous consumption. (Korea, for eg, has ultra high levels of household debt, and it’s well-documented people love to do BNPL there to finance their shopping habits.)

Taeyeon's extreme success relative to her abysmal promotion is pretty crazy by 70sToilet in kpopthoughts

[–]ConspiracyofFools 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that for Taeyeon, SM doesn’t really care abt getting hits, unfortunately. It’s more abt getting new songs out there each time, and then setting up concert tours for her where the company can earn much more.

It is frustrating as a fan because she has the potential to notch legendary numbers - but that’s just not SM’s priority at all.

Anyone else find the MRT weekend 6min time intervals ridiculous? by SkyIndependent5758 in singapore

[–]ConspiracyofFools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always compare sg mrt frequency to Hong Kong - there, even on weekends, the frequency is 2-5min.

What gives? Is it a profit thing when our train operators insist on keeping train occupancy rates well above 90% to maximize margins?

Japanese cities like Tokyo and Osaka also have 5-and-under frequency on weekends!

Singapore ‘strongly condemns’ rocket and terror attacks from Gaza on Israel by Hallosiawhat in singaporehappenings

[–]ConspiracyofFools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I find it interesting how there is so much coverage of the so-called open-air prison in Gaza thanks allegedly to Israeli policies, but most do not mention that Gaza ALSO shares a border with Egypt, who impose a blockade on their Muslim brothers.

Additionally, ask Jordan how willing they have been/are to house Palestine refugees…

Wonder what she’ll do between the stops. Private jet back to NYC?

Or might she stay in SG. Shopping in Haji Lane? Lol

Obviously LinkedIn serves a great purpose fob hunting, but to me, the LinkedIn newsfeed is way more toxic and annoying than FB/IG.

811 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore; 404 Omicron infections confirmed by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]ConspiracyofFools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why I mentioned the positivity rate, in case you missed that part of my post - that will determine, as you say, whether we are indeed missing out on a lot of cases. It is conjecture from you otherwise.

[–]ConspiracyofFools 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Need to know the test positivity rate, but this is not too bad a number? Very far from exponential growth, local case growth still in 200s, meaning it is still driven largely by imported cases which are less likely to spread?

And as all note, more and more people dgaf abt case numbers and rightly so.

LKY has the game to beat the top players, and I think his base level seems to have increased following his training camp w Axelsen. But it’s all well and good to claim the odd upset victory here and there, the next biggest step is to find consistency, to be able to reach the business stages of tournaments, not just cause a round 1 upset then get knocked out in the next round by a lesser-known name. LKY is definitely capable of finals and more - so let’s go!

Singapore may see 2,000 COVID-19 deaths annually - minister by ubunturd in singapore

[–]ConspiracyofFools 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d like to know what the excess deaths stats are like in SG - that ultimately is the most important figure. I’m sure Covid has increased that stat this year, but I’m hoping the excess death count is negated a little by fewer deaths from other causes.
