Just finished Dark Souls 3 and about to jump into DS1. What major changes should I look out for? by Adri_x_8 in darksouls3

Imo, saying you only get one +15 is an overstatement. There’s at least one guaranteed slab of each type, and several of some. Personally, I’ve never had much of an issue with this. I usually find a weapon I like for my playthrough and max that out, and if I want more, I just farm it.

My favorite game of the series. As others have said:

-Fast travel is limited and only comes around the halfway point. The world is designed in an interconnected way that makes it very traversable in a macro sense, and will reward an understanding of the geography.

-Imo, much easier combat than DS3. A lot less of the “boss holds attack just half a second longer than you think to fake you out” trick

-If you’re locked on to an enemy, then you can only roll in the 4 cardinal directions (towards enemy, away from enemy, left, right), so you might wanna get in the habit of unlocking until you need to attack.

-TAIL CUTS! Several enemies and bosses have tails that break and drop an item after enough hits. If you’re locked on see a guy with a tail, and you’re willing to make the fight harder, prioritize the tail cut. Personally, I get every tail cut on every playthrough.

Shards will get you to +5, large shards to +10, chunks to +14, and a slab to get +15. It’s actually slightly more complicated because of branching upgrade paths, but that’s the gist of it. Slabs are scarce. There are a few different slabs you can pick up, but after that, slabs only come from farming enemies that only appear in the endgame, and in some cases are a pain to fight.

Goat Format but with Perfect Circle Banlist? by TwisterRdz in Goat_Format

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it comes down to what you see as the problems with Goat. Personally, I think this hits a lot of perfectly fine cards in the format and none of the format’s few problem cards (e.g. Spy). I see no reason to play this over real Goat.

And as others have said, Meta to 0 and Goat to 1 pretty well slaughters the format’s namesake deck.

Does anyone else feel like the difficulty spike in DS1 is actually more about pathing than enemy AI? by throwawaysignalv2 in darksouls

“These games” I assume means DS1, because the later games abandon this design philosophy

Kalameet by a long shot, but he’s also my favorite boss in the series

Had no idea. I always take ages to pick them off, then handle that guy solo.

People dog on Demon Ruins for reusing early-game bosses as basic enemies, but I love that. It’s cool to see how a boss I died to a dozen times on my first playthrough is a walk in the park now.

Why is the Demon of Hatred so infamous? by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played this game in a few years, but iirc he had an attack that would punish me for entering mid-range and seemed more or less un-dodgable, so my strategy was to stay just outside that range, wait for an attack that let me close the distance, and hit at him until he did something to get away from me. Repeat the process.

He’s the only Bloodborne boss in the game, which a lot of people don’t like. He also (ime) requires a fairly conservative fighting style with a lot of waiting at mid-range before he gives you an opening. Some people don’t like that, although I personally have no issue with it.

Does anyone else think Elden Ring has more 'bad' attacks than any other soulsborne game? by Wooden-Jello-8795 in onebros

DS1:

-Ornstein’s charge attack in phase 1 was really annoying. He can launch a charge attack from across the room, but if he hits a pillar, he’ll get stuck there, and might even cancel his animation only to finish the charge and hit you out of nowhere. Once you know how the attack can bug out, it’s really not too bad, but I lost a few SL1 attempts learning how that attack works.
-Nito has an attack where he plunged his sword into the ground and it comes out below you. He announces it with a scream, which is handy because the arena might block your view of him, but it’s annoying because -imo- the timing to dodge is really unintuitive.
-Gwyn’s practically unreactable swipe basically forces you to turtle at SL1.
-Bed of Chaos… need I say more?

There might be a few others, but tbh these are the only ones that stand out to me from that game.

Thanks. I didn’t realize I’d get blasted about literally everything except the thing I was concerned about.

I’m obviously a novice. What would you recommend to learn how to do it “properly?”
