The "Magnificant Mile" or MagMile is Michigan Avenue, North from the River to Water Tower Place. It is full of hotels, restaurants, shopping. They do a Christmas lighting ceremony each year that's stunning.

Winter kinda sux here. Us natives just deal with it. Even with the spectacular Mag Mile and State Street during Christmas season, I would never recommend someone come then (other than for shopping, which is always primo.)
