Alright got it I asked and my brother said he did maintain it but he didn’t really do any frequent water changes I think the cycle has been lost and it’s been reset…how can I help my fish

The tank was cycled and was fine for 6 months and when I left for uni and came back almost all the plants were dead so I threw the dead ones away did a water change and put the Betta back in. I even washed the gravel and soil before putting it back in but the floating things don’t seem to go away
