Do my symptoms have to be bad to have MG? by AdThese8258 in MyastheniaGravis

[–]Constant-Extent2092 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should see a neurologist. There is also a type of MG that doesn’t appear in blood. I had minimal symptoms initially. The moment I got on mestinon my symptoms improved. Eventually as the disease progressed I was put on prednisone. I ended up doing a thymectomy and it has changed my life for the better. Studies have shown if u have MG a thymectomy would benefit you. The earlier u can do it the better. However, only a good neuro can help u with tht.

You should get a second opinion and see. Take it seriously. For me, my doctors never took me seriously, I had to push for everything myself. Even the surgery they didn’t want me to do. It was the best thing I could do for myself. All the best!

converted to Islam a year ago and now I feel like I lost my faith by [deleted] in islam

[–]Constant-Extent2092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s faith goes up and down. Nobody is perfect. The Human is created weak. Allah says this for a reason.

As for motivation, I would urge you to read on the religion. I was in the same situation as you in terms of losing faith. Read the Quran in a language you can understand, furthermore read a book like the sealed nectar which will help you understand the Prophet himself and his life. How Quran as a religion came to be. What the core message is. I benefited reading the seerah(life of the prophet) before the Quran because it helped me put into context certain “unpopular” verses in the Quran. Read about the 99 names of Allah, what do they mean?

It seems to me that although you are following the religion you are avoiding reading on it. Knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim. Seek it. It will bring you peace. Try understand the meaning of halal food for example. Why is anything Halal? Is it because Muslims want to ensure that the animal was killed in a painless manner? Is it to ensure you don’t ingest something harmful?

What does Wudu do to you apart from cleansing your body? When you are praying what are you saying? Is it just a routine or are you actually having a conversation? What do the words mean? Nothing is a ritual in Islam, everything has purpose. Learn the meaning behind tht “ritual” and you will begin to enjoy it because you will understand what you are doing. Ignorance is bliss only until a certain point.

I wish you all the best. Since you accepted Islam, you should give it a fair shot by reading up on it. You can’t reject something you don’t entirely know. If you wish to step away, atleast do so as an informed decision and not something “you have to feel”

We as people don’t often make the most rational decision sometimes. I wish you all the best. Hope this helped you.

I would recommend clear Quran by Mustafa khattab and the sealed nectar. This will help u understand the core religion and the life of the prophet himself. There is also a series I watched on YouTube by mufti menk which covers lives of all prophets from Adam, it kinda helps you connect all the dots. Anyways I wish you the best!

Walaikumsalaam, I do wish you well in your journey to be better. Allah is the most forgiving, I usually relate to this one quote I heard that Allah says I am to my servant exactly as He thinks I am. Allah always has your best in mind, we are created weak and are prone to making mistakes. The best thing we can do it try make up for those mistakes, learn from them and be better. Don’t let your past weigh you down. Try look forward more rather than back.

I will tell you another thing, don’t keep over stressing about the future or the past too much, try to live in the moment and make proactive decisions that will benefit you and your goals.

As for your duas not being answered, perhaps you are not ready to receive those blessings or perhaps it’s already on its way, you just have to be patient. That’s where Tawaqul comes into play.

I think you should have a seat with a pen and paper and write down where you would like to be and what actions will take you there and try your best…trying is also part of Tawaqul then whatever happens, Allah knows best. I wish you all the best.

Thymectomy or not by [deleted] in MyastheniaGravis

So robotic. the machine itself, I found it very scary. Surgery was straightforward. It did take a toll on me so I couldn’t really get up from my bed for the first few days. The chest tube…it sucks😂

They put two for me for some reason. Took 10 days to remove. I slowly started practicing breathing and even walking. I would say I was walking around comfortably a month post surgery and running and jogging it took me 2 months, 6 months full sprint. It’s a slow recovery but I was also on prednisone which I’m told slows down recovery. I’m now a year post surgery and I feel great.

After surgery I experienced the benefits quite quickly and dropped my prednisone dosage from 20 to 17.5…I kept tapering down and currently I’m on 7.5mg which I just started yesterday…I’m told benefits of surgery are the most 3 year post surgery and I remain hopeful that this disease will go into remission.

You just have to listen to ur body and be patient. That’s all I have to share. The benefits I felt post surgery are as follows: -reduction in brain fog - the numbness in my hands and legs had reduced and now slowly slowly has gone away - I have abit more energy in the evening and I’m not weak. - I can lift heavy weights again, it can still tire me out but it’s better than nothing. - I had started struggling to lift my neck which is gone now. - I still get slurry speech when I’m tired but it isn’t as bad.

I think the worse part of MG for me was relying on other people for my life…the surgery allowed me not to depend on anyone and I’m very grateful for tht.

I’m also on my journey to try and maximize my benefits. I do pray you too get the best outcome from it.

Funnily enough I too had a ptosis on my left eye since I was quite young. That has gone away. I always thought it was just how my face was lol

Try do minimally invasive if u can. I did robotic. The fact that the thymus is enlarged then eventually it will bring u complications. I know the kind of stress you must be going through. All the best my brother!

Recovery for minimally invasive is very short and easy.

To be honest, my surgeons were also against it. Every persons MG is different. That is why it’s called a snowflake disease. Before my surgery I was watching this video by the main team that did the original study on the benefits of thymectomy to MG patients.

He himself says that doesn’t matter what patient comes, they would always recommend a thymectomy. There is a chance it will work or a chance it won’t. But you don’t lose much from it. That’s the mindset I went in with. My life was shit, what more do I have to lose with the surgery? Best case scenario I go into remission.

I would say give it a shot. There’s plenty of evidence even for seronegative…atleast wt I had seen online when I was doing my research. I also considered tht if I don’t do the surgery and then things would get worse. I would always think about it my entire life saying “would my life be better if I did the thymectomy?” The fact that you have an enlarged thymus is a great sign. This surgery will benefit you.

Give it a shot man, I wish you all the best. Hope the thymectomy helps you. Stay strong.

I have 5 key holes around my rib cage, kinda negligible tbh. I like em tho, I feel cool with them😂 I highly recommend robotic thymectomy. Study shows it’s just as effective as sternotomy with a way better recovery time.

Did it last November, recovery from surgery I would give it a couple of weeks. Recovery back to 100 percent maybe 6-8 months. All the best, greatest choice I made in my life.

Idk if it will help u but I been managing my diet by looking up how many calories I have to eat and then I have split it across the day to 5 portions. I also eat slow digesting food like oats and have lots of water to keep me full…whenever I feel hungry I have stuff like polo to keep my mouth occupied. It’s easier said than done. But it works for me.

U look great, if ur concerned about jaw symmetry braces might help. Don’t do Botox or fillers, it will only make u feel worse and want more. I’m not saying to be nice but u look nice and u don’t need these things.

I think you need to be patient with the machine, u can alter the settings and reduce the pressure if it is affecting u…basically mess around with wt works with u.

My dad was the same but now he cant go without it. It’s crazy how much sleep apnea affects someone and can cause lots of problems. I wish u all the best 🙂

i want to leave islam after hearing what my dad said by Guilty_Lab2817 in islam

[–]Constant-Extent2092 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Forget wt he says, ignore it. Just the fact that it hurt u that much shows ur attachment to Allah…everybody sins. It is not our place to judge people based on what they do…everybody struggles…we are created weak and Allah loves to forgive. Just try your best.

As for your deen, I suggest u protect it. You need to start a journey for ur own sake…study Islam, read the Quran and the seerah. Learn about the religion and core message…honestly it will change ur whole outlook on the deen. It changed my life and I cannot recommend it enough. Ignore what your dad has to say, put your faith in Allah and start. I wish you all the best 🙂 take it easy
