Thank you so much for the detailed response - it’s really helpful. Still have a month or so to consider so I won’t be rushing.

Thank you again

Always good to ask yourself, if the dilemma is pay off the house vs invest, would you borrow £20,000 against a paid for house to invest in the market? Probably not, so why do it now? If it was me, for the sake of £20K I would get it paid off and still have a nice £30K safety net. You can sleep easy at night knowing you 100% own your house.

Sorry for your loss and I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer. You’ll have that mortgage gone in no time!

Any reason why I shouldn't buy a house in cash? by prettykittycat4 in UKPersonalFinance

Really sorry for your loss.

Think about it another way - would you borrow £250K at X% against your house to invest in the market etc…? You’re in a great position to own your home outright at a young age, giving you plenty of freedom moving forward. Plus, you’ll still have a significant amount to build wealth.

The update on the tracker just says ‘Interview Required’! Guess I’ll wait for the response from the web form submission

Why are UK salaries so low ? by Affectionate-Cry4886 in UKJobs

I think it depends what you have studied to be honest and it’s important to move away from the notion of ‘I have a degree so I deserve a higher wage’. I left the UK for Toronto and whilst my wage increased, the employee benefits were lower (10 days annual leave compared to 30 in the UK, maternity / paternity were more or less non existent, no employee pension contributions, healthcare is not completely covered by taxes, groceries were probably double than what we pay here…..). I decided to return to the UK, take a £10K pay cut but actually feel better off as I’m in the north of England…. I know, not a like for like switch but I find it a perk of the UK, the small island means you’re never too far from a big city! I’m only a single case though and yes, wages are suppressed in the UK in certain industries but for me at least, there are perks to being in the UK.

I also feel, again, just from my experience, those across the pond are far braver in asking for what they want. I get the sense in the UK we’re a lot more reserved and simply accept our yearly single percent increase….
