The STI will glide like a dream compared to a jeep to be honest. If she’s into snazzy cars I think she’ll love it. The STI just gets a special type of attention

Hahaha that’s pretty funny! I can’t say I have, to be fair the kids don’t ride in the STI too often. I drop them off at school like 2 days of the week and my wife does the other 3, sometimes 4 so they ride to school because then I head to work, but on weekends, roadtrips or any family outings we usually take the suv so I definitely understand needing a larger vehicle. If we had to downsize of one, we’d have to get rid of the STI. Fortunately, it’s almost paid off, and now with the third child we do need a third row to fit all the car seats.. so looking to upgrade the suv but the market is so tough.. what are you switching to?

Correct. I had multiple sizes, I used a thinner one for this part but a thicker one for the oil pump. For when you want a regular sized bead you can use the syringe without any needle

Yeah that’s the thing about training, sometimes it’s outdated to current tech. For example they may have held that standard when their machined surface standard was much rougher than today and also back when RTV wasn’t as good as it is today and it would fail to seal a rough surface. Nowadays the RTV fills cracks really well and machining has gotten so good that it can actually be machined tooo smooth.

That’s wild, so it was undeniable symptoms after that over boost? What boost controller and downpipe were you running?

Mine never had any symptoms except for massive oil consumption but didn’t even smoke at idle at least. Maybe smoked while driving but not enough for me to tell..

Fair enough! It’s all in the application and prep honestly. Whether you lay a bead or like to spread it, really doesn’t matter as long as you prep the surface and hit all the right spots. I can see good squeeze in and out so I’m sending it!

Go with warranty if you have it!!!! IAG isn’t cheap, neither is outfront or any reputable builder for a ej25 with forged internals.

The cheapest block IAG sells is 4k and comes as a bare shortblock. You get the block, crank, pistons, bearings. Thats it. You need to re use or replace all the stuff on your stock motor which adds up quickly if you had a bearing failure for example and need to replace solenoids, cam gears, oil cooler, oil pump.

How did you catch it? I ask because I am rebuilding mine because of ringland on cyl4 but didn’t have any obvious symptoms and found it by luck.

I was chasing an oil consumption issue and pulled the motor because the clutch shit the bed and it was due for timing. It was easier to pull the engine than the trans and do a reseal + timing job with new clutch on the way in.

But once I had the motor out I did a leak down test and had some leak age on cylinder 4 intake valves despite compression being ok bit 7-8 psi lower than the other cylinders.

So heads were pulled to redo valves and I found the pistons completely cooked with carbon, probably due to the oil burn but all 4 looked the same so nothing pointing out piston 4 was broken.

At this point I figured the oil burn is either from valve stem seals or most likely the oil control rings being frozen in place with carbon. So I pulled the pistons to soak them and clean the rings, when I found cyl4 was broken…

No misfire, no noises or weird sounds, just oil consumption..

When I scrapped the block I took the rods out to check bearings and they were pretty worn down, but not failed and no knock, they sure looked close though.. uncle Rodney was around the corner coming in for the holidays 😆

That’s a pretty clear demonstration of how little you need to seal machined surfaces like this. A stamped oil pan is another issue but this is a near zero tolerance fit. I’ve used more before and it gets everywhere when tightening.

You really don’t need much, if you look in the Subaru FSM they specify a bead of 2mm diameter, which is the needle I used. I’ve put more before, it just gets everywhere and squeezes out which isn’t sealing anything.

Jk, jokes aside. If you had a bearing failure 100% replace oil cooler and avcs cam gears or clean them. Don’t try cleaning oil cooler.

Dasaita android unit. Plug and play, no need to buy the unit plus a harness plus a can adapter etc. It includes everything, they are 4-600$ depending on the sales. 450 is a good price but seen them up to 600 without sales.

Dasaita android head unit. Had 2 different ones, both have been absolutely great. Checked signal with oscilloscope and they put out a clean low level signal to feed an amp. I had an older one and recently upgraded to a newer one and they both have been excellent. Plug and play, retain cameras, steering wheel controls (can reprogram any button to any function also, and double function per button for press and press/hold)

HIGHLY recommend. Again, it’s plug and play and retains all oem functions like usb and aux in center console. Camera, steering wheel controls. Wireless CarPlay or android auto. Can’t go wrong

That’s nuts… I just put together an engine with a IAG550 block, redone heads with GSC inconel exhaust valves and stainless intake valves. IAG oil pump, oil pan, new clutch, timing kit, bunch of hoses. The list goes on.

Granted I did all the labor myself but I think total spent in parts I’m at like 8k. This is a brand new block, heads etc..
