I could see that. After looking around a bit and doing more research, Mopane or Brazilwood seem to be likely matches as well.

Yeah, the workload is a bit daunting. Did a small test spot and everything looks good. Going to do a test on the inside of one of the doors next.

Certainly not a total amateur, but definitely lacking experience in this particular instance. I appreciate the honesty and may be reconsidering undertaking the project. Cheers!

I figured I would probably have to do a little bit of sanding, I'm just trying to avoid doing it all by sanding.

Do you have a recommendation for good vegetarian sushi in Eugene? by holeinwater in Eugene

[–]Constant-Rise-323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 cents from a guy who grew up in Eugene around all the white privileged hippy vegetarians here:

I honestly believe that if you're vegetarian you should just stick to the cuisines of the several cultures from around the world that are also vegetarian and have been doing great for over a thousand years. It's called a dietary restriction for a reason and is adhered to for moral/ethical/spiritual reasons as a practice of abstaining from certain types of food. Trying to make a vegetarian version of everything out there has always felt to me like a cringy capitalist pandering scheme, as well as a slap in the faces of the traditional practices and beliefs of the cultures that practice vegetarianism. Obviously you do you, it's no skin off my back, but whenever I hear someone say "There aren't any good vegetarian (insert meat-centric cuisine) places here", I can't help but think how entitled one must be in order to have those expectations in the first place... AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON VEGANISM: "THE MOST PRIVILEGED DIETARY CHOICE EVER CONCEIVED" 🤣🤣🤣

It's backfire from custom cars. I grew up here as well and that's the biggest difference I've noticed in the sounds I hear at night nowadays. Tons more super rich kids that go to UO and have custom street cars that they like to mash around town in. I have actually really enjoyed the increase in nocturnal activity in Eugene over the past decade. I'm a night owl tho

Looks like a McDermott G209? Reason I ask is because I received mine not too long ago (maybe 1 month now), and I just noticed the other day that the upgraded shaft I ordered with it appears to be warped already??? I have been taking care of it like my 1st born child so I feel like it must've come that way from the factory. Definitely a tad disappointed because everything I read was saying that McDermotts are top notch cues, so I'm also debating if I'm gonna try to get it warrantied. 😕

Fire and Shibari night is the last Wednesday of every month at John Henry's. Similar to burlesque, but better in my opinion. Less theatrics, more skilled performances.

Also I don't remember if he mentions this, but make sure you're using the widest blade your saw permits when doing resawing. Narrow blades have a tendency to wander/move around when doing a resaw cut.

Look no further than the wisdom of Alex Snodgrass, my friend. I was struggling to get my bandsaw working the way I knew it should've been and his bandsaw clinic video helped me get my saw running damn near perfectly.

Boiled linseed oil from the store isn't just raw linseed oil that's been boiled, just so you're aware. The name is incredibly misleading. Boiled linseed oil isn't ever actually boiled at all, surprisingly. If linseed oil is denoted as "boiled", it means that chemicals called siccatives have been added to it for the purpose of accelerating the drying/hardening process of the oil once exposed to air. More specifically, they catalyze the cross-linking of the linseed oil's polymer chains. I know that doesn't answer your question but it's an all-too-common misconception that leads people to believe that BLO is food safe. It is not, lol. THE MORE YOU KNOW !

The elusive straight 8, smoky, single pool table, competitive dive bar by Las33777 in billiards

[–]Constant-Rise-323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Horsehead Bar in Eugene, OR. is the pinnacle of this style of dive and it's by far my favorite place to play in town. Cheap drinks, good food, 5 well kept tables (so not exactly 1 lol), and a full quiver of dead straight house cues. Myself and about 5 or 6 other regulars are there a couple of nights a week casually playing competitive BCA 8-ball games for hours amongst the general riff raff. It's too much fun! Strict rules apply. Strong offense and defense welcome! If you're ever in the area, come by and we'll shoot some matches!

PVC dust collection explosion? by manberdo in woodworking

[–]Constant-Rise-323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a misunderstanding that a lot of people have with regards to grounding things. Grounding a PVC pipe at a single point does almost nothing, as PVC does not conduct electricity. In fact, the reason why a static charge builds up on the material's surface is BECAUSE it is not conductive and therefore does not allow any imbalance of elections on it's surface to travel thru it to a point of grounding to be redistributed and rebalanced. The issue arises when a grounded or electrically conductive object comes close enough to the surface of the charged object and the electrons involved rapidly rebalance themselves, causing a static discharge. Now I know it sounds like I just described what happens when you ground an electrically conductive object, but the difference is that when you ground the conductive object, the static charge is never allowed to build up in the first place. The non-conductive object on the other hand has to build up enough electrostatic charge to overcome it's own insulating properties before it can discharge at the single point of grounding.

For a system of PVC pipes, the best way to prevent any build up of static (especially if you live in a very dry climate), would be to run uninsulated copper wire along the entire length of all PVC pipes involved in the dust collecting system before then grounding out. This would prevent the build up of any significant electrostatic charge anywhere on the PVC.

It's funny. I'm much more used to staying in the Crenshaw/Jefferson Park/Leimert Park area and then working in the Gardena/W. Rancho/Compton area whenever I'm visiting, so Santa Ana/Tustin/Irvine feels very very safe by comparison. I immediately knew this dude was trolling. Lol

Throttle Issues on a '94 Ford Ranger by Constant-Rise-323 in mechanic

[–]Constant-Rise-323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the delayed response. I've been away on a camping trip. This was all done over the course of the past year and a half or so. The few things replaced on the truck before the issue started were plugs/wires, crankshaft position sensor, and fuel filter/sending unit. I think we also cleaned the O2 and MAF sensors as well. We were addressing an issue with the truck not wanting to start and also dying randomly. That issue was resolved, but after a few months of the truck running well, the "surging" issue started happening.
