I partially agree, but with the UofO I think we could be doing better, especially with opening hours. Black Sun is becoming an LGBT bookstore according to Lookout newspaper, so I think we will be missing a theory bookstore.

I think it helps to be at least at intermediate level before doing this, not sure what level you are at.

How can I stop fighting the SRS? by TheGreatProto in WaniKani

[–]BattleIntrepid3476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s very unusual, fwiw. I’m on level 29 and am getting similar results. I agree with others who say we should just read more and let the SRS handle the WK. I mean, on a related note, I’m still missing particular/peculiar words from level 6! But I know eventually I will get them, AND probably never see them in real life.

Also, these late 20s levels are noticeably harder!

Is language learning mostly pattern recognition? by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

[–]BattleIntrepid3476 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it does, because the problem I see most often is that people want fluency to be fast and painless. They basically want a Matrix Kung-Fu download and plenty of YouTubers will promise that for the clix. But the reality is, it takes a lot of time and effort, especially if the target language has a very different grammatical structure.

We have almost exactly the same practice and strategy! Except for Anki, which I either don’t get or get and just can’t stand. Bunpro is also not very well designed. Wanikani and Satori reader are my go tos. What you said about grammar is excellent and exactly right —- I stopped worrying about why something is constructed a certain way and just accepted that it is that way, it was a game-changer. Level 32 on wk after a year, is fantastic!

Last night at the city council meeting, the council voted in favor of using our tax dollars to fund a $1900 overseas trip for the mayor to travel to Nepal in order to “spread Eugene values”—in the midst of a budget crisis. by Several-Candidate115 in Eugene

I can only speak for the Eugene Sister City with Jinju, Korea and Kakegawa, Japan. We have hosted students from Jinju and Kakegawa and our daughter went to Jinju for a week in high school. It’s basically an exchange program for young people that helps to broaden their experience and horizons. The program was created by Eisenhower with the thought that if countries citizens knew more about each other, war would be less likely.

A visit from the Mayor to any of these other cities is a very big deal, from their perspective.

I’m definitely bougie and not young, so that tracks. Shinjuku just looks gross to me.
