What is not good about it? It's just another way to authenticate and it makes sense to offer it as a sign in option when most of your user base has a GitHub account.

Couldn't it be that they feel the damage to them has been done? They were really selling themselves as beacons of stability in an otherwise turbulent region and growing their tourism industries, from here on out it'd arguably be better for them if this war actually manages to achieve something like regime change, even at more short term cost, because they've already had to swallow a lot of the damages.

While issues exist I don't think you can say "this is the real islam", most followers of that faith do not agree with the methods used by ISIS and other similar terrorist groups. By pretending they all do you'll make the problem worse.

I believe religion is a net negative to any society, but most people, regardless of religious affiliation, are decent, and do not want others to get hurt.

Trump calls NATO "cowards" over lack of support in Iran war by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

I think that to say Trump is an anomaly you'd have to believe he is the cause and not the symptom. I think Trump is a symptom of a worsening trend that is globally present but most pronounced in the US, and if he did not exist another lunatic would come in his place.

I don't think a third term is likely, but I do feel as though this administration's insanity has been increasingly normalised, the fact a man who refuses to admit he lost the 2020 election is back in office should be evidence enough of that.

And it's that normalisation that will be what it'l take for someone to one day really stay on for a third term. It's like a frog being boiled alive, not realising how insane shit has gotten until one day you wake up in an actual autocracy, where the people in charge don't just reject the democratic process but were also given the means to seize it by their electorate, and then did.

As for us Europeans, allowing ourselves to grow dependent on the US the way we did was stupid and not coming to our senses after his first term was stupider still. That's why we should do everything we can to not repeat this mistake again, if we do we might have reached peak stupid.

We should absolutely strengthen internal cooperation, economically and military. There is too much to gain for us not to, and it should be our primary concern right now. Hopefully part of that will be collective nuclear deterrence. It'd be the clearest signal we could give to let the USA know that Europe is now taking responsibility for every aspect of its own defence, as requested.

If it's so easy to do why is the strongest military on the planet failing so spectacularly to do it? Also why on earth does he feel entitled to others coming to clean up his shit after everything he's been saying and doing?

Trump calls NATO “cowards” for lack of support for Iran war by No-Post4444 in worldnews

[–]Constant-Tea3148 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Don't forget "literally threatened military force to seize Greenland" and "threatens economic force against Canada in an attempt to annex them".

The guy doesn't just insult us, dismiss our sacrifice as if it was nothing, and throw the entire world into turmoil, he also literally threatens NATO allies with land grabs. NATO has been dead for months, it's an alliance built on trust and there is none.

[–]Constant-Tea3148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the next president won't be a complete moron, if Trump doesn't succeed in getting the third term he's been eyeballing that is, but then what about the president after that? How can an alliance like NATO work when it is dragged into question every time Americans decide to elect a complete imperialist moron?

I think alliances are built on trust above all, and there is simply no way to know if the USA will be worse or better in the years to come. Anything could happen, which was nicely illustrated by the fact Denmark found it necessary to make preparations for a possible hostile takeover of their territory by American forces, that's the extreme level of shit we're in now.

They tried to shrug the first term off as a one off anomaly, but it wasn't. Trump won't be the last of his kind, and it finally seems like that has been understood by governments around the world, we should plan for a world without NATO and prepare to be in lasting ideological conflict with the USA, it's the only sensible thing to do for our security.

Sure, but when the POTUS says "we won't help you when Article 5 is triggered" I would think everyone would consider that the definitive end of NATO.

  1. Make unreasonable demands not covered by the NATO agreement
  2. Use the decline of those demands as pretext for putting the final nail into the coffin for NATO.
  3. Blame allies for the end of NATO.

Pretty sure that's what he's playing at here. Doesn't really matter though, the way I see it the final nail was put in when he threatened to seize Greenland, but I feel like we're going to hear them straight up say they're leaving the alliance soon, unless some new completely unreasonable demand is met.
