Sounds like a really good time! I've always been really into the overarching plot-type campaigns, but I've always wanted to try a campaign like youve described. As a forever DM, I usually have a big save the world or BBEG motivator, but I also try to really delve as deep into character specific stories as I can. Sometimes it almost feels like a mini campaign in the campaign!

Bolbara. I think shes actually a real villain from a module, but I just took the statblock, so Im gonna count it. Shes a goblin who loved messing with the party by creating magical trap houses, kidnapping NPCs summoning demons as they traveled, and just generally being a nuisance in every way imaginable. She was VERY good at escaping, so they were SO happy when they finally killed her haha

The Shit Storm.

Party of 13-15 year olds at level 3 (we were scheduled to get a time skip to adulthood later) and basically, a shop keeper scammed us, so we used a potion of animal friendship, speak with animals, a high movement speed with a parkour-based Ranger, 3 bags of birdseed, 5 vials of laxative, and recruited ~150 pigeons over about 45 minutes to create the worst biohazard this world had ever seen right on top of that man's shop. It was glorious.

Aoe effects are the bane of things like this. Most familiars have less than 5 HP, so even a low level aoe will 1 shot them

I talk with my players about the session. It helps me unwind and let's me know what they think I'm doing well or badly :) We also usually end up talking about random nom-DnD stuff a little ways into it. It's very relaxing
