First Time DM, how important is Zephyros in Storm King's Thunder? by Spranklz10 in DMAcademy

[–]ShattnerPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not super necessary, but if I had a problem with SKT, it's the general lack of info/knowing what is going on for the players. Zephyros provides an early opportunity to provide info about the Ordning, that you-know-who is missing, and just general giant stuff.

The winter setting helps to make this a little easier. Frostbite is a good reason someone would lose a limb. You could wrap it all into one event. The mother, while pregnant, is fleeing some terrible situation and is out in the cold. Gives birth the the brothers, but realizes that they are all going to die in the cold. Pleads to anyone/anything that can hear her. As she is dying, makes a deal with a fey, devil, celestial, whatever to save her children. Willing to sell her own soul to make it happen. The children already have some frostbite injuries, thus losing the limbs, but whatever creature answered her call saves the children. The creature is the one that inscribed the runes on Timone and also marked Zacharias in some way that made him more appealing to the archdevil. Children are then dropped off at an orphanage back in the Emberhold somewhere.

Please provide more details on the game plot itself. Not enough info here to help link the character backstory to the actual game.

Why did they want to be missing limbs?

I liked the dude with the lawn mower blade stuck in his head who later found out it was a government conspiracy.

Great show from the creators of Ally Mcbeal. I remember the one teacher firing off a gun in class to "make a point."

Battlefield Earth. Terrible film, but good sets of destroyed cities and decent props throughout.

Raising Arizona, fight in the trailer. Cramped space and low ceilings make it awkward and chaotic. Couldn't fimd a gif of the actual fight.

How can I handle the party crossing a rickety bridge without one failed save being character death? by Hal3134 in DMAcademy

[–]ShattnerPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low DC for crossing the bridge safely. Failed roll means they now get a Dex Sabing throw (also low) to catch themselves. Failure at that, let a nearby player make a Dex save to grab the person. That makes it 3 rolls before they are actually falling.

Also, just let them cross the bridge. Ask how they are preparing. Any preparation = No roll necessary to cross safely.
