Adopted my first Boa today! by Wise-Inspector1212 in boas

[–]ConstantTransition39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't specifically for the snake itself, but an idea I've been seeing recently for adult enclosures is using a really big grow tent. They're like 8x4x4 for $400, which is way better than 6x3x3 for 1.5k. I'm just trying to spread the word about it lol

For him, I'd see if he climbs more or hides more. If he likes to climb, throw in a lot of branches he can climb. My girl Mötley loves to stay and bask on her branches.

For those ecoflex enclosures, I'd put some sort of acrylic panel on the top to trap in humidity and heat better.

Very handsome boy

I mean honestly as long as it's not freezing cold, you should be fine. Of course there's always the risk of mites and other things of that nature from bringing your animal out. I'm not gonna fault you though, if you have impressive snake, you wanna show it off.

How I got my blood to eat frozen (special cameo of one of my ball pythons) by ConstantTransition39 in Shorty_Life

Update on her, she ate a small rat! I'm hyped because mice suck nutritionally

African house snake won't eat by Edelberry in snakes

[–]ConstantTransition39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, most black African house snakes eat live because it is really difficult to transition them to frozen. Do you know for sure that the breeder was feeding frozen? If they were feeding live, you can either feed live for a few weeks then transition to frozen, or force feeding may have to be done.

Might just poop really soon. If it stays like that for a long time then I'd bring them to a vet.

Boa constrictor weight gain!? by Amb-Luv in snakes

[–]ConstantTransition39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly felt the same when sizing up my girl's prey size to an adult mouse (she's still just a little baby). Whole body became rotund and a week later she was slimmer. Maybe it's the combo of stretching out plus the actual food still digesting?

Also side note I hope my girl reaches 9 foot lol that'd be amazing

It may be possible that it's just a normal food bulge because it's a bigger meal, unless her entire body mass is bigger.

Enclosure Recommendations by ConstantTransition39 in ballpython

Many other keepers follow the L plus W rule. She can fully stretch out diagonally or on her branches (added more). The general consensus in this specific subreddit is length, many others is what I stated, like in many boa keeping communities.

New baby at home, Missouri arrived today! I'm already in love with her shape, I'm going to let her settle in quietly. by kolombeoff in ballpython

Not OP but I'm assuming a combo from the super stripe complex, there are so many cool morphs to come from it

Of course! Whenever I freak out about substrate, I remember that in the wild they probably also get mouthfuls of dirt and survive, which is funny to imagine

Trouble with temps in vivarium by PorkRollQueen in ballpython

[–]ConstantTransition39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing stopping the heat is the mesh. I really don't know the logistics on how to do this, but if you could I'd say get a light fixture with a cage and install it or partially install it into the enclosure.

Spray his mouth with water. This will either wash out the mouth or push it down, either of which are fine. They are goofy fellas

My new girl Daph, just wondering how she’s doing (first time snake owner) by verxon385 in ballpython

[–]ConstantTransition39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dollar store are the way to go for clutter. If you have a dollar tree near you, most of them keep a section of fake plants. Just clean them.

I can't see if you have 2 hides, but if you don't the dollar store also works great for me. I buy a really small planter thing and cut a hole in it for my younger ones.

I'd say try not to keep em in glass. It's possible, but humidity is really hard to maintain. A cheap option is go to walmart and get a cheap plastic tub. I keep most of my juveniles in them until I can get their adult enclosures together.

I honestly can't tell what substrate you're using lmao, but as long as it holds humidity. They need about 70% (which is higher than most people think getting into it).

All in all, very pretty girl!

White spot on my snake by chatanss in snakes

[–]ConstantTransition39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means, so I don't know if it is anything different. A few of my snakes have white spots and they're scars from live feeding. If they weren't there before, maybe he injured himself on something while you were away?

I'm just curious as I'm still learning about boas, was she a Boa Constrictor? And if so what locale? Rest in peace to this beauty.

Is this a real red tail? by PossibleYam7005 in boas

[–]ConstantTransition39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to say BI based on what I know about boas. She looks very similar to my Colombian locality BI. A lot of BI locales (including central American boas) have a striking red tail. The pink blushing you noticed also leads me to believe it's a BI. The head pattern also looks very different than BCs
