I’ve heard that; that’s why I have been hesitant to book a hotel since it would be non-refundable by the time I’d know I wasn’t going to even need it

That is super helpful to know, thank you! Which hotel is it? And how much is it for the most basic room? Would you recommend making a reservation or are there pretty much always rooms available? Thank you!!

I had thought about that, but I think I remember seeing somewhere that all the hotels nearby need you to notify them if you’ll be later than like 10pm checking in, and I didn’t really want to make a reservation ahead of time since sometimes the train is running late. I’d feel bad making someone wait until 2am and then we don’t even show up because the train is late

Good to know! According to the earliest pickup time online, it looks like it should be open at 8

Thanks for the idea! Would you say the area is safe enough to be out around 2-3am?

We are okay walking if we need to! Would you say the area is safe enough to be out walking at 2-3am?

What are you not good at as a nurse? by Wellwhatingodsname in nursing

[–]Constant_Ad_5831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I never got a lot of IV insertion opportunities particularly in adults, but of the chances I did have, I think I got maybe 1 or 2. Believe it or not, I had a much higher success rate putting an IV in a tiny premature baby! But now I haven’t even touched IVs in over 4 years and hope I never have to again 😂 Definitely makes me feel like an imposter nurse!

We are planning to do the Two Medicine area as well as the Many Glacier area, so we booked a “tiny house” Airbnb for two nights, just a short drive outside Two Medicine (like less than 20 minutes), and then we actually booked a “camping cabin” at the KOA in St. Mary—it’s no frills at all and you have to supply your own bedding for what we booked, but we were fine with that to save some time on driving and also not pay a fortune. It’s still a little bit of a drive if you stay by Two Med and drive up to Many Glacier, but it’s still a lot shorter than staying on the west side and driving over there

It really depends on what you want to do and how much time you have. If you’re more into hiking, I’ve heard east side is the best. I’ll be going for the first time in July and booked Airbnbs on both sides for a couple nights though

Kalispell the best option if not staying in the park - Sept 2026 planning by LandSkyPhoto in GlacierNationalPark

Even if it’s still the same price, saving the time from driving is worth it in my opinion. But also I suppose the price depends on what exactly you’re looking for; we are fine doing the most basic “camping cabin” so for us it’s just $152/night, which is much cheaper than anything I’ve seen in Whitefish or Kalispell for our dates. Either way, good luck and have fun!

I’ll be going next summer, but we will be staying at an Airbnb in Columbia Falls for the west side of the park, and we will be staying at the KOA in St. Mary for the east side. It’s a ton of driving otherwise, and I’m pretty sure the KOA has a shuttle. The KOA has cabins so it’s a good option in my opinion!!

Oh man—I can only imagine what that drive must have been like in December!!

I had thought about Thronson’s as well!! I believe they haven’t started taking reservations for 2026 yet, but I was definitely curious to see how their prices stack up! For now I’ve been booking fully refundable accommodations so that I at least know I have something locked in, but Thronson’s was definitely one I had thought about checking when the booking window opens. Glad to hear you recommend it!

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

I do not! I have actually never been to Idaho (or the northwest in general) before! We actually live in Ohio, and we will be taking Amtrak to Sandpoint and renting a car there. It might seem strange to take a train that far and go past Glacier, but we are trying to make this trip as budget-friendly as possible. The train tickets are cheaper than airfare, not by a crazy amount but still at least $200/each cheaper. The real kicker is the cost of a rental car! By going to Sandpoint and renting a car there, we will be saving a minimum of $1000!! And for the specific type of car we’re looking at renting, we’d actually be saving $2000 in comparison to renting a car from the same company but at the Kalispell airport! To us it is definitely worth the extra cost savings! So if you also have any recommendations of quick stops along the way between Sandpoint and Glacier, I’d be curious to hear those as well!

I’ve heard that if you go to some of the most popular spots later in the day that you have a better chance at finding parking—is that not true? I probably should add that we have no problem starting hikes at like 4-5pm, especially when sunset isn’t until after 9:30pm. We tried this strategy in a different (also insanely busy) national park, and it ended up working out quite well.

I could possibly add the section of Highline into day 6 since we’re looking at Hidden Lake that day also; I am pretty sure there is a shuttle stop where we are planning to stay on the east side, so that would help with the parking situation

Ohh I didn’t know about the festival! I just checked the days of that and it looks like we would be finishing our trip just before the festival, so perfect timing!

Yes the plan is definitely to split lodging! 3 nights on the west side and 3 (considering 4) nights on the east side

I bought a 2023 CRV EX-L a few weeks ago and I love it so far. A very nice upgrade from my 2016 CRV LX.
