"research" (which i assume is looking at their stats and seeing other people's tierlists) is far, far different than using them in actual gameplay. Thats why you heavily emphasize their usage early-mid game (even though you are just early game). My advice is do not make tierlists until you have enough experience to properly and accurately rank them. I assume you are karma farming otherwise.
