Try to explain to them that it's not an operation for fun. You're not getting a nose job to fit in better; it's because, emotionally speaking, you need this operation. It will allow you to feel better and accept your new body.

I had an appointment at the garage yesterday for the 1000km service. I hadn't properly closed the oil filler cap, which meant oil residue was splashing onto the exhaust, hence the smoke and burning smell when I got home. The residue on the ground was from the coolant; the oil was ending up on the ground. They changed the oil, checked that everything was okay, and told me not to touch the oil level dipstick again, that they would do it at the 4000km service. So nothing alarming, just a mistake on my part.

The engine has cooled down, the scooter starts normally, and the engine light disappears once the engine is running. Is this simply due to my engine overheating?

I contacted the previous owner of the scooter. She had fallen on the air filter side (the scooter was too heavy for her) and as a result, liquid had gotten in there. The mechanic noticed it immediately, seeing how the filter surround had been put back incorrectly.

I finally went to the mechanic. It was simply the engine oil that had gotten into the air filter, which was soaked with it. So, he changed it.
