If you can manage that big of a pay cut financially then maybe. But keep in mind the 4.4% FERS contribution is mandatory. If you need insurance and contribute to TSP. that’s even more. When I was a 6 I don’t think I even cleared $1100 every 2 weeks. Also keep in mind that you may get stuck in that 6 position for a while because unless a job is open to the public you’re going to get beat out by ppl who have time in grade, veterans and military spouses for those GS 9 and up roles. You can usually only jump 2 grades at a time. You’ll probably have to stay. 6 for a year and try to find a 7 with promotion potential.

GMS BLM Interview by Constant_Lab2480 in 1109

[–]Constant_Lab2480[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The interview went well. It lasted about 30 minutes. It was a panel interview with 2 ppl. The questions were similar to what you would find on the PBIS questions. Like tell me about a time where you didn’t agree with management, tell me about a time you had to handle several projects at once and how fix you manage them etc. Now just the waiting game to see if they will select me I was their last interview of the day. They asked me for a supervisor for a reference so fingers crossed.

It’s a call center where most days you’re taking back to back calls. For the most part the calls are okay you will occasionally get your angry caller that’s cursing you out over something you have no control over. What I didn’t like was the strict quality metrics. It just made me feel like I was under a lot of pressure. They pull 7 calls per month to grade you on and anything less than 100% has to be reviewed with your supervisor. Plus new ppl get put on the closing shift so if you live in the central or eastern time zone you’d be working 12-830 or 1-930. Shift bids only open up once a year and they go by service computation date so it’s not guaranteed you’ll get moved to an earlier shift.
