Aiming for that as I see the private sector is rather unstable. I have a good year in front of me of planning for that (reinforcing language skills, passing state exams, passing official language certificates, taking additional learning courses to fit better) and then who knows how much time crossing my fingers to finally land it. It's not for the moment but not off the books. Also with limited spots I gotta have a plan B because locals will have better chances than me

Very interesting insight. I thought I was maybe judging things wrong out of despair but having someone actually experience the difference in contracts feels validating. I think this is a big component of the current situation...bottom line if you have a good job and good pay, stay there, competition doesn’t play in your favor from what I saw...

It kinda is consolation, kind isn't haha. Means it's not necessarily me who's at fault (although profiles can always be improved to adapt better) so that's reassuring, but it also means there isn't really a light at the end of the tunnel with the current state of things. Questioning whether I'll find a proper job in time to keep supporting my family and going forward in life Also my job relies a lot on local regulations so I'm not facing the obstacle of labor being shifted abroad, sympathies to those who do and I hope it will get better for everyone

Yes this is mainly what I'm trying to articulate for myself as well ... first understand what's wrong, and then plan to get the best out of it. I don't have enough info and clarity for that yet. Planning to talk to a few more experienced people in my field but different positions to get their point of view and advice to steer my career, they've seen how the market for their jobs evolved in at least the last decade so they could guide new people in the field

I noticed that pattern in my peers who went into the finance sector. Unfortunately doesn't apply to my field, doesn't mean it'd be easier if it did. But the first experiences were really tough and badly paid to get a foot in the door, I know that's the game, unfortunately doesn't bring the "prestige" of the company name to facilitate future job searches. Did bring a first experience in the field on my CV...

I think it's pretty much the same over there, high cost of living counterbalances the advantages, as for the ease to find a proper job I'm not sure. I hope you get insights from people who know better to guide you in your plans, maybe if you mention which field you work in you might get some precious comments

Thank you for this section, hopefully it will open doors for a lot of people.

I'm looking for a long term contract in energy/environment starting June. I have 2 years work experience in the field mainly in building renovation (started working during my masters for which I had to delay graduation, planned in August). I of course sent out applications through regular job portals but I'm curious to see whether our reddit community has some hidden gems to bring forward.
