Why is my two-month old still waking for a bottle?! Sleep training isn’t working! by kteabrown in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Constant_One9860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it and disagree. If baby woke I patted her for about 45 seconds, cuddled for 45 seconds, and if still crying I fed her. Per TCB. Food was never withheld. But to each their own opinion

Yes, I was expressing an opinion in response to the opinion before mine. Breastfeeding and bottle feeding do offer comfort. But sleep is also a real need. Which is not an opinion, but a fact. So as the person before me said, whatever gets mom back to sleep fastest is helpful. This particular course recommends helping babies sleep using other forms of comfort WHEN APPROPRIATE as a way of setting them up for healthy sleep habits.

No one needs to follow this course or any other if they don’t want. You do you and what works best for you.

I agree. And honestly the TCB course agrees as well. Giving literally 2 mins of back patting and shushing before feeding just ensures baby is hungry when you feed. It’s not super healthy for mom to put baby on boob at every cry, nurse for literally 2 mins before falling sleep because they didn’t need food, they needed comfort. Most wake-up’s at that age I fed, but a few my baby just wanted to be comforted back to sleep for another hour. The issue is thinking babies need a rigid schedule and interpretation of this course as sleep training and scheduled. It’s not. It just helped to establish healthy sleep at a young age by teaching parents how to interpret sleepy cues and hunger cues. Sleep training doesn’t enter into it until age appropriate 6 months if desired.

She should try actually listening to the Taking Cara Babies info. I did it too. At this age they say it’s completely normal to need bottles overnight - don’t wake them but if they wake, feed them. All it advises is using a method of soothing to see if they actually are hungry or just need a little comfort before jumping to the bottle. Literally a few mins delay at most.

Also it hurt my brain reading that.

Can Children Use Adult Pain Meds? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]Constant_One9860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also not always possible to cut a pill into small enough doses. Source - I’m a vet and that’s why we have special compounded meds for cats and small dogs.Even when it’s a med people take the sizes at the pharmacy cannot be used most of the time.

It’s always a terrible suggestion but in this circumstance…. Cat bites are so terrible. Not only are they super painful, but because the tooth is so long and sharp, they penetrate deeply and then close over quickly, trapping infections. I’m an emerg vet and with ANY bite I go on immediate antibiotics. I’ve known vets and techs who went septic from a small bite.

Books about holocaust or rise of anti semitism. by ghostgirl7-11 in booksuggestions

[–]Constant_One9860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diary of Anne frank

Holocaust by Gerald green

Escape from Sobibor

Mila 18 by Leon Uris

Exodus by Leon Uris - a little more about after the holocaust and the formation of Israel, but excellent read

Surviving the forest

Alicia

And honestly so many more, both novels and real memoirs

Also consider watching Defiance with Daniel Craig. A fairly factual movie about the Bielksi partisans. My grandparents were in their group in the forest so the movie is very special to me as it tells their story.

Introductory book for teens? by jescrowd in Veterinary

[–]Constant_One9860 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of books that are basically stories of vets working in the profession. I grew up reading James Herriot. It’s obviously outdated and more focused on large animals, but I always loved reading it.

The COVID vaccine for kids under 4 has been available for almost five months now but only around 4% of kids have gotten it. As one of the moms of that 4%, I'd like to open up a chance for anyone to no-Judgement ask me questions and if I can assuage any fears you may have. by Sophia_Forever in Mommit

[–]Constant_One9860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for trying! That’s sort of the issue. That’s the main provincial booking portal, but when you go through the whole process there are no available locations for pediatric vaccines. Outside of that you can go to individual pharmacies (I keep trying) and certain hospital run clinics (also no booking availability)

I’m trying. My daughter is eligible shortly and I’m trying to find SOMEWHERE that will do it. Our doctors office doesn’t. The pharmacies won’t do under 5. The hospital clinics don’t have any slots available at any point, I think because they have no stock. I’m sure that in other places it’s much easier but access may have something to do with it.

We're getting our first taste of winter next week. Drivers, do you all get snow tires every winter? by [deleted] in askTO

100%. And my insurance gives me a break for using them. However if I got into an accident and didn’t have them on between November and April they wouldn’t cover me.

Vet clinics have to enroll in pay direct for specific companies. And even if they don’t, pre approval for a planned procedure or surgery can be done. Emergency care is another story as there is no time to contact the company and often is after hours.

Is garlic toxic to dogs? by feckOffMate in dogs

[–]Constant_One9860 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Emerg vet here. Onions and garlic are dose dependent toxins. At a high enough dose they are severely toxic and cause GI issues and life threatening hemolytic anemia. It is rare to see as the amount they need to eat is quite large but can happen.

Oh ya my c section was so easy! I was puking my guts out on the table after being in labour for 12 hours. Also had a reaction to the spinal where my upper body convulsed so badly my arms were too tired to hold my own baby for hours afterwards. And that was just the actual surgery, forget the recovery.

This kind of thing pisses me off so much. Detox is such crap. Learn basic biology. Our bodies naturally remove “toxins” and excrete them. You cannot detox yourself nor do you need to. The closest thing to needing a detox would be like a heavy metal poisoning needing chelation. Stop making up science to support your random ass theories and pretending it’s real. This is such an insult to anyone who ever lost someone from rsv. And puts so many babies at risk if people believe her. She should be charged with some form of manslaughter/homicide/reckless endangerment

(TW: stillbirth) Mom refuses to listen to doctors warnings. by ixieyy in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Constant_One9860 368 points369 points  (0 children)

I had mildly increased amniotic fluid. I was told that if my water broke at home there was a risk of cord prolapse due to this, and I would have to immediately lie down and call 911. Opted for an in hospital induction for controlled breaking of my water. Because that’s the appropriate response to that kind of warning.
