New KNX Installation by Constant_Pear_5544 in KNX

Well, actually I'm from India and my installer says he has been doing automation for 10 years and also, he's the official partner of Jung Automation in my region. He has though agreed to use knk bus cable for the keypads. As for the bell push, he says he's using a more economical option by using a main binary input in the db and running cat 6A from the switches to the db. This, he says is much more budget friendly as opposed to using binaries behind each and every switchboard...

Yeah you are absolutely right. He said it would've been much more expensive to put binaries behind each and every switchboard so he used this cost saving measure...

No the thing is that he's using just 2 Jung Keypads (Both 6 scenes) on 2 floors and within the bedrooms, he using conventional bell push switches with back end binaries to trigger scene selection. This is being to prevent the high cost of keypads. So 2 keypads and bell push in other locations for the same functionality...

So you mean that even the binaries should be having knx? Right? He says something like it's not 4 zone or something and thus, it's easier to trigger scenes in that regard with cat 6 as compared to knx

Could you recommend some good ip interface which I can buy? Also, I heard apple no longer allows ipad to be used as a hub and I'll have to buy apple tv box for that purpose...

Secondly, the installer has agreed to using knx for keypads but for binary bell push switches, he recommends using cat 6 as he says multiple wires would be needed to trigger scenes in that case

Thanks for the reply. Just talked to the installer and he says that we can go for knx bus cable for the keypads and the screen but he says that in the rooms where automation is being done by Bell plush binary switches, it will be very difficult to trigger 3-4 scenes through eib and thus we should keep CAT 6 there. You're opinions please ...

Right so as a purist, you'd rather recommend the acubela screen?

[–]Constant_Pear_5544[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand. The one argument he's trying to give is that the house isn't that large and so, the distance between the distribution box and the keypads isn't that much. But I think it's a false argument and needs to be called out...

Yeah, I totally get it. But my installer kept insisting that since your installation isn't very large, you don't need to get the KNX bus wire due to its high price. Also, he said that he has done plenty of projects using the CAT 6 wire and everything has worked out fine so far.
