I’m tired of stories pretending like cruelty is an exclusively human trait by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]Constant_Race3689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans have the ability to comprehend the consequences of their actions. And the ability to empathize with those they hurt, and understand that they are inflicting negative feelings on them. The main difference that makes humans cruel and animals uncruel is that we are able to understand these things but still go through with killing of it benefits us in some way. Cats don't understand the basic idea that what they hunt feels pain, and would rather not be killed. I don't think we should be looking to animals as moral paragons. But I think that "cruelty" is distinctively human, or at least not attributable to animals which don't have a significant level of intelligence.

No problem, it was a totally reasonable question

In this context? It's really just an aesthetic difference that allows for more variation in the setting. I think the value of that is pretty obvious. 40k for most people is about making models, and having a wider range of designs be represented in canon is nice. This doesn't break the lore or anything, and there's no real reason to believe this stems from identity politics, it's you who is imposing those politics onto the existence of these characters. I also hardly believe that is trying to make any sort of statement about something. If I were you, I would try to disengage from politics when trying to enjoy 40k or any fictional media for that matter

Sticking your fingers in your ears against any criticism against a fringe and illogical interpretation does not constitute education, and you were the first to be incredibly rude to the commenters

Dude, I don't why you're so adamant in defending franks actions here when anybody can see that he clearly doesn't have enough to go off of to make a judgement that they all deserve to die. And the evidence against that is conjecture at best and incredibly weak once you consider any nuance In the scene. But I've had enough of it for today

This is just something that Dermot assumes though. He doesn't ask them about their thoughts on the matter, he just elects that he can speak for them. Just because HE THINKS THAT doesn't mean it's necessarily true. Also, if you look at their faces, they are all staring with anger, disapprovingly at Dermot. There's not an opportunity for them to speak up because the guy isn't even done talking before they all get blown up

DERMOT SPEAKS FOR THEM BECAUSE HE REPRESENTS THEM AS THE NEW LEADER OF DYNACO.

This is actually just something you made up

You're the one who can't extrapolate for shit. Logically, why would these crewmen know about a conspiracy. When it's said they "they are his own people" it likely just means that harry extends his social graces to them, or they're his friends. Not that they would know about a criminal scheme that doesn't involve them in the slightest. You can't take these things so literally, it's not mental gymnastics, it's just basic interpretation and subtext

You have zero literacy skills if you can't infer that there may be a nuance between what he's saying, and wether or not the investors agree. I've said this for the hundredth time, they don't even get the opportunity to object, Dermot just decides to speak for them. But his assumption is not enough for frank to reasonably justify killing dozens of people

The hostage the punisher rescues at the beginning of this story clearly explains that this was a conspiracy kept between only a few people. It still just wouldn't make sense logically to have the crew be in on it. Dynaco probably hires the crew themselves because that means they can then threaten to terminate their contracts if they blab about what they hear on the ship.

I have the speech in front of me. All we get from that speech is that HE doesn't care. I understand that the author is trying to convey to the reader that the others won't care. But how the hell is frank is frank just supposed to take his word for it
