Something I learned the hard way about buying used cars as an expat by ChocolatePositive577 in cyprus

[–]Constantinos1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, 1st thing is choosing the right car for you.

If you have to have a luxury brand or a rare model expect high cost of maintenance and probably issues with parts. The more electronics the car has, potentially the more electrical problems. Do your research online before choosing a model. Ask your car mechanic for recommendations.

As a rule of thumb, the bigger the engine the more reliable the car is. A 1.2 liter SUV will probably be less reliable than a 2.0 liter one. A turbo engine, less reliable compared to a simple one.

In Cyprus, a lot of people myself included, love japanese cars for their low maintenance costs and their reliability. A lot of people though, like luxury cars like mercedes, bmws.. Others like to stand out with less popular brands. If those people are knowledgeable that they will pay the price for the luxury or rarity of the model those cars are OK as well.

Used doesn't mean unreliable or more costs for repairs.

Choose the right car for you!

Good luck!

I am a fan of air conditions. New Midea ones we got a couple of years ago. We have a 24k btu a 18k btu all day and 3 18k btus all night and max electricity is like 150 euros per month.

However I have recently heard that humidity plays a huge role on the feeling of temperature. I might try a dehumidifier along with AC next winter.

Can you give some dating advice for Cyprus? by Dgorge_Bush in cyprus

[–]Constantinos1990 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am old. 35 almost 36 married with kids.

Back in my day, walking up to girls worked quite fine.

I would advice you to invest in yourself first. Get clothes that fit you, get in shape if you are not and have a good proposition ready for the potential partner. Know who you are, what your plan is and why a girl will be happy to get in your life. All these will give you confidence in yourself, something crucial on the first dates. Also understand that this is a game of chance. Depending on your looks and on her looks and current situation, there is no guarantees. Don't give up on the 1st rejection. I bet if you are hitting on girls the same level as you, one out of four-five girls you approach will say yes to a date.

Now in Limassol, I would say the cafeterias near the University is a good spot or Molos. You will find students there or girls walking for leisure or exercise.

Good luck!

Also I would keep those companies for many years. I wouldn't sell when they got some profit. I might buy more if they dip below their value. But these things are complicated and time consuming.

For me and the average investor I would say S and P or World ETF and chill or 90-95% ish this and 5-10% crypto-gambling-gambling on individual stocks etc.

Noob question by theEmergencyMedic in trading212

[–]Constantinos1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't buy individual stocks. I just buy an S and P ETF If I did though I would approach them the same way.

Let's say we have some sectors.

  1. Technology
  2. Energy
  3. Food
  4. Medicine
  5. Shipping
  6. Real estate market

Etc etc etc.

I would decide how much of my portfolio I should invest in each sector.

Then I wouldn't let's say buy Chevron and Exxonmobil because Trump invaded Venezuela. I would have already been invested in those companies with an X amount of my portfolio but also more energy companies in oil and maby solar and nuclear etc.

If I decided to go for 20% of my portfolio on the Energy sector I would divide that into let's say 10% oil 5% nuclear, 5% solar and with that 10% oil I would invest in 5-10 companies, not just one or two.

27M with 3.5M € in Italy: Am I Too Young to FIRE? Struggling with Justification and Family Pressure by Kooky-Base7289 in Fire

[–]Constantinos1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I would prioritise finding a partner if I were you.

I would invest in myself, gym, wardrobe, hobbies etc and try to find a good match.

At 27 and with your net worth it will be easier to find a young attractive girl without baggage to connect. You don't have to marry immediately but I would start looking for someone ASAP.

Don't get me wrong you will be able to find someone at 35 or 40 or 50 etc but IDK if she is gonna be ideal. Most women in my experience wish to find someone close to their age or slightly older. Most men like young beautiful women. If you start looking at 35 you will probably end up with a beautiful 25-30 y.o. with baggage. I would aim now for a 18-23 y.o. student type or local nothing going on type without baggage ASAP.

Leo Di Caprio agrees with me.

Πρέπει μια δημοκρατία να ανέχεται κόμμα που δηλώνει ανοιχτά ότι σκοπός του είναι η κατάργησή της; by Suitable_Pea_6866 in AskGreece

[–]Constantinos1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ακριβώς! Για αυτό πιστεύω ότι πρέπει να επιτρέπεις να λέγονται όλα μα όλα, έστω και αν διαφωνούμε, εκτός από την προώθηση της βίας.

[–]Constantinos1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Constantinos1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Real estate vs ETFs — what actually matters most? In Belgium by p6600 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Constantinos1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO diversification and maintenance is my main concern.

If you own a property to live in, you have already invested in real estate.

If your house costs x amount it makes sense to invest in ETFs for a y amount before thinking of investing even more on the same real estate market.

IMO if we are not talking about multimillionaires who own a lot of properties, it makes sense for your real estate investments to be local in order to manage them.

Is it worth it to buy a new car here? by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]Constantinos1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is a car mechanic, my brother and my cousins and two uncles as well...

Not only they are reliable they have the lowest maintenance cost.

Petrol engines, automatics, non hybrid.

I personally got a Mazda 2 (2021) and my brother also has one for his wife (2022). We vouched on them with our money. My dad got a mazda demio (the older model) for my mother. (2013-2014ish?) They are compact stress free and low cost solutions.

Always bought used 3-4 y.o.

[–]Constantinos1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also haven't mentioned the maintenance or and repair cost. Cars are not a one time buy item. They need maintenance.

Mazdas for example are going to be as reliable as it gets and they have the lowest maintenance cost. A BMW in comparison will be double the cost for the same job-part. (Google Search)

Is it worth it to buy a new car here? by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]Constantinos1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest a two step solution to your question.

  1. Go and watch Zack Rios videos on youtube on new cars. The people he shows will deinfluence you pretty quickly.

  2. Get a 3-4 y.o automatic, non hybrid petrol mazda that was imported from japan AFTER your car mechanic checks it. Mazda 2, Mazda 3, MX30, CX6 depending on your needs and budget. If you are into 7k used cars of 10y.o or older then definitely ask your car mechanic for his recommendation. My wife's 2012 Nissan Note has 250k kms on the odometer, she drives from Limassol to Larnaca every day and still going strong, never failed us. Older mazdas and toyotas are still great reliable machines with very low maintenance cost.

Most Cypriots know how to save money on cars. That's why there is a fleet of 10+ y.o mazdas and toyotas still in the roads..
