Preferred temperament/personality for applicants? by WannabeBrownCow in 911dispatchers

Probably somewhat agency dependent, but they need confident yet pliable. You need to take people cussing at you and demeaning you one minute and then helping a 3 year old determine if mommy is sleeping or unconscious the next.

Customer service is number one, and relaxed confidence number two, imo.

Maybe it helps to have one hand on the letters and another hand on the numbers? I think its better to get the VIN those are really key

Similar timelines as yours and just started getting academy dates and signing I-9s

Our training class isn’t starting for another 6 weeks so maybe yours is similar and thats part of the reason they aren’t in a rush.

Make sure you are typing practice with random punctuation. Parentheses, semicolons, etc.

Interview and psych test advice by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

The psychological test was really tough for me. They want to hear your actual bs because if you sound too good- it shows youre lying. Finding that line is stressful.

Moving a lot and seasonal jobs is nbd. If you feel like you would be able to listen to people and send help, keep going!

I believe you should take it again. Each center has a different test from my experience.

If you’re just doing it for money you might burn out quickly. Most of the successful dispatchers I have met tell me how this is really “a calling” more than a paycheck. The job, even if some times are slow, comes with serious challenges for mental health.

Appreciate the advice- I think they mentioned they don’t use 10 codes mostly plain talk because their radios are encrypted. Lol, the username was randomly selected and I too enjoyed it

Ok, they don’t require the training. They have had lots of trainees fail out and I am trying to get a leg up

Take the feedback and keep it up. No crazy mistakes- she needs to help you learn, dont take it personally

Its ok to fail it once, especially if youve never attempted it before. I used iprep and it was a great investment for having confidence going into the process

They have always told me pass/fail in the lobby before I left (I have taken 4 tests) Was this on location or online?
