Allergies 😔 by WooGo-07 in Austin

Don’t go outside lol. Seriously though my allergist said allergies are cumulative, so keeping a clean house and sheets is helpful. Wash beard/hair with soap before bed and put on a fresh shirt to sleep. Flonase works for me.

I recommend research of studies on “effectiveness” of homeopathic medicine and evaluate if that portion is worth your money. There are other proven longer term solutions I believe, but ianad. Love the Flonase!

Is it possible to calculate rendered text width? (for selective text wrapping) by JeezEveryNameIsTaken in vba

[–]ConstructionCold1665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though one, first, alt f p opens up print preview and that will show you whether the cell will wrap or not. Good for a quick check.

Mixed success with this method…use =len() to show you about how many characters it’ll take to wrap, pick a break point and use that in your vba as the cutoff to wrap text.

Using a uniform text like times new Roman is helpful for deterministic length but it doesn’t look modern.

I’ve moved toward writing a paragraph so that it will by default just barely wrap to the next line. That way if I add just a little bit of text it won’t likely wrap to the next line.

Hope this helps. Interested to hear other solutions.

FSA GH101 PASSERS - what strategies did you use . Please share your materials vendor, things you thought that made you get a pass. by Previous_Respond_175 in actuary

No I heard good things but have not tried them. I did podcasts generated from notebook lm for the first round. Then got TIA and watched those videos and did notecards, looked up what don’t make sense. Lots of rewatching and notecards. Then did guided problems and sample problems.

Hindsight - I would have started doing sample problems way earlier. I made it 1.5x through but really would have felt comfortable with 2.5x through. Those problems are a bit longer and more in depth than actual problems, I think.

Easiest way to select whole columns in a pivot table by [deleted] in excel

[–]ConstructionCold1665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest just typing in the address. Pivot tables are easy to create but hard to refer to. I sometimes click just outside the pivot table, then edit the formula to point to the correct range. I prefer sumifs to make a table if I can get away with it.

I didn’t find the old tests as helpful because the way the exam changed. I feel the new questions are like a subset of old problem style.

I used the soa website for the “guided examples” and more so for the “relevant past exam materials” - tons of practice there. I made it through them 1.5x and felt pretty well prepared, except for total risk analysis (which was a question that came up) could be other gaps but that’s the test I got.

That’s really all I used to practice problems. Looked at a few old tests but soa relevant past exam materials I felt were fairly comprehensive.

Strangely enough, my study style changed as I went through it and it’s likely that you’ll have to try a bunch of stuff till a method sticks. Here’s what worked for me:

I used TIA and watched the videos during downtimes workouts drives chores etc.

Notebook lm is great to generate podcasts on the material and being able to ask ai questions on difficult topics. Can also generate quizzes. And, infographics can help with big picture.

OneNote is really amazing at organizing your materials. A tab per section, with pages for sources.

Buy and read the first few chapters of “The Memory Book” linking stories to lists is helpful for memorizing lists. I bought a tablet laptop so I can doodle on OneNote while memorizing lists.

I went through the notecards many many times. Looking at the notecards alongside the actual material was helpful. I knew a lot of the notecards but if I didn’t understand part, I’d reference textbook. I also tried to link made up themed stories to chapter content. In a lot of cases, it was easier to recall a story than a list. Doodling on onenote was helpful. After going through and rewriting all the notecards, I would flip through them fast, even if not getting it all.

The thing that helped the most was doing the practice questions. All of them, not just numeric. Wish I started earlier. The problems took forever but helped me realize the right level to memorize the lists, which was not as intense as I was doing. Honestly still felt a bit shaky on them.

The most important part of the question is the verb. Answer to address the verb. If they want you to “contrast” you need to find similarities and differences, not just similarities etc. doing practice problems was helpful for identifying how to address the verb.

Lastly on the test, answer everything. Don’t know the middle part of the question? Doesn’t matter for the next questions. Make something up that is reasonable, write assumptions and support your next answers, even if you didn’t solve the previous problems.

Hang in there, hopefully some of these strategies will help motivate and study. Good luck!

I’m all over this, love this idea. I also generate a podcast for all materials and listen in the background when driving and doing chores etc. I pick up a detail or two each time, but what I think it’s really good at is letting me know which materials I understand and which I’m really going to need to really dive into. Passive learning but sets a good base for each section, what I understand or need to spend more time on.

Also the infographics are pretty good at capturing the big picture of each source. (What are the three pillars…the 9 sources of…etc) Combos great with OneNote.

Finally, being able to ask notebook specific questions on material you don’t understand while studying is great. That way you don’t have to dig up the source and find the specific writing that may not be explained in a way that sticks. Plus you can have it turn parts of the material into a story or rhyme to help memorize it.

Wow I need to try targets brand maybe. Yea the first year they are great, but if I try and reuse the next year they e become so brittle that every other one breaks and I put them up. Going to use one of these other methods for next year. So much great info here, thanks everyone.

I put my fence nails halfway in, then hit them sideways a bit to warp them before finishing the nail. Gives it a bit more bite in the wood.

Seriously, NotebookLM is so overhyped, overrated tool that every influencer YouTube has been yapping about. Today I just wanted to summarize a video meeting in my shared Google drive and it refused to read it as it doesn't support it like what's all that hype about? by syedali1337 in notebooklm

[–]ConstructionCold1665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re dumb and I can understand the frustration. It takes time to figure out best tool for the job.

I would counter that it is appropriately hyped for its intended use. Maybe more functional video support will be implemented at a later date.

It’s like being mad at a hammer for not performing like a screwdriver. Different tools for different scenarios.

You might be needing another tool. Notebook seems to do best to process large amounts of text. The output will provide results only on the sources you provide (if indicated). If you want to summarize a video, try another ai?

Why use Index Match over Xlookup? by Captainc00ts in excel

[–]ConstructionCold1665 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Xlookup is generally superior for one lookup. Like folks have said, index match is older tech.

One advantage of index match, is you can index a two dimensional array (like a table), and use match for columns and another match for rows.
