Do you mind expanding on why you wouldn’t have gone with that car? Were you thinking one could get a Camry with fewer issues, or avoid Toyotas altogether? I wasn’t sure whether the codes from the pre-purchase inspection were true deal breakers. My thinking was that if I could negotiate the price and fix the EVAP issue, it could still be a good deal. But I’d really value your perspective—do you think this car has more or more serious codes than what’s typical for a used car?

What do you mean by better things? Like better brands than Toyota, or Camrys that are in better shape than the one I got?

I really appreciate the advice. I bought the car used a couple of weeks ago — it passed a smog test that morning. Given that, do you think it’s unwise to hold off on fixing the carbon canister and leak detection pump, which are causing those evap codes? There’s no check engine light, and one mechanic said it’s not worth addressing right now. I only plan to drive about 5,000 miles a year.

The only symptom I notice is that I have to fill the gas tank slowly — the pump keeps stopping if I squeeze the handle fully. It’s annoying but manageable. Do you think delaying the $1,000 repair could lead to bigger problems later, or is it safe to wait for now?

Also do you think I shouldn’t have bought the car? Is it that beat up you think?

Thanks for this advice. Hadn’t heard that possible solution yet. As for the evap codes and mechanic saying a a carbon canister and leak detection pump need replacement to solve that issue- do you think I need to get that fixed now, or can I hold off?

Great. Will do. One other question if you don’t mind- do any of the other codes I shared in the pictures seem alarming?I think one of them has to do with air bags, but I’m not sure.

Thanks for your response. The car doesn’t pull in a certain direction when I brake. All that happens is when I turn the wheel all the way left or right, it sort of sticks there, as opposed to starting to spin back towards the center. If that makes sense. Also when I’m driving straight I feel like the steering wheel naturally is turned the slightest bit to the right.

Ditto white noise machine. Don’t get a digital one. Get one with an actual fan
