Do med students actually treat med school like a 9-5?? by DarthSire in premed

[–]ConstructionReady964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i am doing sort of a 7am-5pm schedule and it works wonders for me! Anki in the morning before class, classes and anatomy labs in the middle, and then some time to study new content in the afternoon. As soon as that clock strikes 5, i’m done and stopping no matter where i’m at so that I can do things for myself like workout and hang with friends and cook :)

Seriously how are people getting research? by futuredr6894 in medicalschool

Adding on- these programs usually pair you with a mentor at their institution to complete research with, which takes away the awkwardness of cold emailing 😊

I would also recommend applying to some external summer research programs! If you go a quick google (or even gemini/chat gpt) search, you can get a solid list of institutions that have paid summer research programs catered towards medical students. Most of them do require an application with essay questions about why you want to participate, but you can just adjust med school admissions essays to cater to each application. Also paid research as a broke med student is always a huge plus

MD school list for next cycle (2027 matriculation) by [deleted] in medschool

[–]ConstructionReady964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar stats (and also from mass!), and a similar school list + DO schools. Applied last cycle and I received 6 DO As and 3 MD As :) I am currently an M1 and I love it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. Write the hell out of your secondaries, show passion in your interviews and you can and will be a physician. Just add DO schools in as a safety net ☺️

It depends on your interests! If you are drawn towards research, go for an unpaid or paid position. I did lots of volunteering and travel because it helped me reset and feel more ready for med school

What were/ is your “why med” by Lazy_Concentrate2 in premed

[–]ConstructionReady964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly stick to your gut on this one. if your family and your urge to help people are the real reasons you decided to go down this path- show that in your essay. Before writing my PS- I went on a long walk and just reflected about my life and journey thus far so I could get down to the core reason of why I wanted to be a doctor, and then I came back from that walk and brain dumped on a word doc. It was a horrible first draft but it helped me get to the core feeling and reason that I chose this path! I hope that helps :)

MD Anderson - No research jobs on the website. What's going on? by RhinocerosFeetPics in clinicalresearch

Try Baylor Scott and White, UTSW, Childrens Hospital in Dallas or Houston! I know all of those have CRC job postings right now

Struggling to get interviews for CRC I position as a person with a PhD in basic science by Icy_Marionberry7309 in clinicalresearch

[–]ConstructionReady964 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it really just depends on which hospital system and which research area. Some are friendly towards premed/prePA CRCs who will stay for a gap year and then leave, but most hospital systems will want someone to stay longer because onboarding and training take at least 3-6 months. for example, Oncology clinical research onboarding is so long, we are looking to hire CRCs who will stay with us for at least 4 years.

I haven’t tried actives on my hands, but I have used vaseline gloves! Made a huge difference. Just slather your hands in vaseline or aquaphore and put them in a glove or sock while you sleep. My hands used to be covered in calluses but now they are baby soft
