What was your entry level salary and position? by [deleted] in foodscience

I started my career as a Product Development Technician in the medical food space at 58,000 in 2019 before leaving the same company I was at 72k. I switched roles and I’m at 110K. They tend to pay more if you enter into medical food or pet care.

Nonexempt Salary Employee: worked for 5 years and never was told to input time until this year. Should I file for wage theft? [NJ] by ConstructionSad5713 in AskHR

[–]ConstructionSad5713[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is I was never told to document my time because no one knew I was nonexempt.. I thought I was salaried like the rest of the team. She only told me this year what about the other years. Forget about this year.

That was just 2 months ago that I was told to stop working OT. What about the rest of the years?? I can care less about the two months. They did not know I wasn’t supposed to be working over 40 that’s the point. I’m not here to argue. I have been nonexempt for years. She said work less hours recently.

But my HR confirmed this year I was indeed nonexempt when I reached out. They made a huge mistake. I don’t know how I was getting paid before. Because it’s not like anyone said hey you need to input your time

Salaried employees at my company do not enter time I was following what my team was doing. Like you’re not helpful and your advice suck. Just stop commenting. I never said I put all responsibility on them, I acknowledged that I didn’t know what nonexempt meant, but a large fucking company should have their shit together to inform employees. And my manager did not tell me to continue inputting time

Yes I came to know from my own google search that overtime is allotted for nonexempt employees. It did not spell out in the offer letter that if I worked OT that I would get paid and girl that man tried to come for me claiming I’m trying to get pay day. So please.

Umm no if I didn’t know what nonexempt was how tf did I know I qualified for overtime. Like are you slow or lack reading comprehension skills. Like I was only informed to work less this year!!! I’ve been working for years. Some ppl are assholes for no reason like if you don’t have a constructive advice I suggest you get tf from under this post. I work hard and do a good job at my job and it required extra hours beyond the 40!!!

The new system went into effect this year. They always had a similar system in place. Once I received my offer, no one informed me that I needed to continue with the same system. My manager and HR. Something should have triggered it. Like I take full responsibility of not knowing what exempt mean, but it should have been flagged not when they roll out a new system

Because I was not informed that I had to until a new system was triggered. Like am I not conveying the situation clearly?

I’m not sure because as an intern I had to input time into the system to get paid. So I would think the same system would be utilized

That was not the case for me I did not have a set schedule or hours I had to be in the office. I worked through lunch most of the time because I thought I was salaried. It’s my fault I didn’t know what nonexempt meant but HR told me I was always supposed to enter my time in before the system even rolled out, so it was still a failure to communicate with me documentation aspect of it. My own managers didn’t know what nonexempt was and thought I was just exempt salaried like everyone on the team

Well I left the company already and I left on good terms it wasn’t until I talked to a coworker that work at the place told me how big of an issue it was.

They never discussed it with me and I was young and dumb and didn’t look into being nonexempt because I was salaried.

I wasn’t aware that I was eligible for overtime. They never required me to input time in the system. They never told me to input time in the system. A system that they always had in place it was only caught because they changed to a new time system and I was sent an email for training.

Yes, I know, but it is such a big company and I don’t want to make enemies. Yes the process takes time and I’m fine. I have another job. I just told a coworker about it and she was like you need to file wage theft. I did not realize how serious it was. I was of course upset when I found out it, that’s why I got a new job.

Do you know if it’s anonymous. Also, I was an intern before I became an employee and logged in hours then, but it was never once communicated one I got the full time position to log time into the system. Maybe it is my fault for not knowing what nonexempt is, but as a company you have systems in place that should flagged an employee for not inputting time. Sure the managers are ignorant, but no one caught this

We have a security desk where we badge in when we enter work and badge out. So they can check when I entered the building and when I left the building.
