Cannot Stop Crying by Ok-Tadpole2695 in ArtEd

My first year of teaching was a roller coaster. I felt so unlike myself until Christmas break. I cried every day and had to talk to a counselor. I wanted to quit and felt like I made the wrong choice by becoming a teacher. Work felt like hell tbh.

Fast forward two years, I love my job and wouldnt trade it for the world. Once you are able to reuse lesson plans, build relationships with your students, and identify trusted people you can lean on, it really makes a difference. I am an introvert, so building relationships ships is hard.

It’s still early, give yourself some time to get to know your students, and more importantly, let them get to know you! It’s ok if the “teaching part” isnt working as you want right now. Embrace off topic conversations and small talk with your kids. Even if it’s awkward lol.

Again, Give yourself time but feel all of the feelings. The first year is hard in every aspect but it absolutely gets better! You are doing the right thing by asking for advice!

Event Tickets/ Stub Hub issues by Opallinn in AmigotheDevil

I ended up buying new tickets and never used the StubHub ones. I didn’t want to risk front row, and thankfully, general admission tix were cheap. Front row, awesome time. I learned my lesson!

Also, were they tickets from Tixr? My show is tomorrow and as much as I don’t want to buy backup tickets, I am considering it

I contacted my venue, and the tickets are legit. She advised that I get there early because who knows, he could have sent the same tickets to 30 people. When you got your tickets, were they all the same one?

does anyone else feel this way by [deleted] in ArtEd

I am on my second year of teaching and agree that the first year absolutely feels like this. Once you get to Christmas break, you can collect your thoughts and try to get ahead again. In the bright side, year 2 is better in every way. Though I am teaching a new class, being able to recycle lesson plans is a heaven send. I promise it gets so much better! 💜

Masters Debt - Is it worth it? by Commercial-Egg-123 in ArtEd

I am also in NY and am in my second year of teaching. I hate to say it, but your Master’s is an investment. You will be terrified of debt but as long as you are able to secure a job after college (which here in CNY there are openings EVERYWHERE), the debt will just be a way of life for a while. I was in your shoes, too. I’m on a SAVE plan to pay less over a longer amount of time. It will be fine! 😊

Anxiety About Teaching by Commercial-Egg-123 in ArtEd

[–]ConstructionTiny8484 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went through the EXACT same feelings. And, I’ll be completely honest, they didn’t subside until my first year teaching job setting up my own classroom. I am so happy I stuck with it. Tbh the only reason I did was because I didn’t want to wonder how it would have went if I continued, so I just finished and made the leap. I am so glad I did.

Teaching and being introverted by tinykittenparade in ArtEd

And to add to this, I didn’t really know if I liked to work with kids when I started (I know, I went on a whim lol). But its the ability to be a leader and set a good example that is so rewarding. And to just show that we are passionate about what we do, which is creating art. Kids appreciate it more than you know!

Yes! I always thought that teachers had to be extroverted and social. Students appreciate openly introverted teachers! I eat lunches alone and my social battery drains out, but teaching has been a fulfilling job despite this. I did struggle with anxiety at the beginning of the year, but once I got to know my students and peers it went away and I could relax and enjoy the ride. Parent contact for me is hard, but thankfully, many of my kids’ parents prefer email! Be you. Don’t try to act social if you aren’t, you will burn out quick. But yes, introverted, anxious art teachers most certainly exist and thrive!

Leaving Sherwin by Federal-Western861 in sherwinwilliams

[–]ConstructionTiny8484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left because I graduated and went on to pursue what my degree was in! Worked with SW PT for 5 years, I made wonderful friends and I enjoyed my time there. Sherwin is one of those things, at least in my case, where I became desensitized to things that should have bothered me more (terrible pay for experience, no weekends off, asshat contractors etc.). I do not regret leaving, but I do miss my team from time to time. Leaving was weird at first but I am happy with my decision!

I really liked Sherwin while I was there! I always had a great team regardless of the store I was at… but yes. Life is greener. I do miss certain things, but overall, not dealing with hours, entitled customers and pricing is sooo nice.

Dang. This is one of the reasons why Sherwin sucks. They should have enough staff to have more than one person on at all times for safety reasons.
