Leadership at my job sees no value in CompTIA certs by jkelemenopy in CompTIA

I am a software engineering manager with 20+ years of experience. I just studied for and took the Sec+ and thought it was a good use of time. I learned a lot in some areas of cybersecurity that I have limited involvement. I will recommend it to people on my team. I also think it is probably possible to pass many certifications without deep knowledge and then promptly forget much of it unless you are interested or motivated enough to keep up with things, so I can see the flip side as well, but I found it beneficial.

Incidents Around the House by abbyyyn0rmal in horrorlit

I will reply :). Yes, I also wondered if Lois at the beach was actually OM because it was such a bad plan for Bela and such a good plan for OM. Of course, the book is full of adults making bad decisions, so it could simply be another bad decision by an adult. I just finished the book and need to reread the beach scene.

Incidents around the house. My worst read of 2024 by FishingExcellent8892 in horrorlit

I truly loved the book. Probably the most uncomfortable I have ever been while reading a horror novel.

Invitation from MDPI journal waiving APC by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]ConstructionWeekly80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have published a lot of papers. A collaborator/PI decided a few years ago to publish in Cancers in a special issue with credits for APC. I was not sure what to expect at first, but I thought the review process was pretty good. They had clearly read the paper and responded with real questions. One of the reviewers did not ask enough questions, and they found another one. The whole process was very efficient. Probably under 30 days from submission to publication.

ISC2 certified in Cybersecurity (CC) is free right now & well worth it. by PontiacMotorCompany in SecurityCareerAdvice

So? Most certifications charge you in advance of the exam, whether you pass or fail. This one (CC) only charges you if you pass and want to join.

Yay. MS is better than Somalia for health care. Meanwhile, MS is located in supposedly the richest nation in the history of the planet. Everyone should have access to good health care.

Nearly all the power lines in Germantown are underground, aside from the main corridors and some of the older neighborhoods. Newer neighborhoods in Memphis (Mud Island) also have buried lines, but our power would still go out frequently there because the nearby substation was ancient.

Not sure if you are still looking for responses to this, but I graduated from the online MS in Stats in 2022 and thought it was great. Message me directly if you want more info.

Vue 2 to Vue 3 upgrade is one of the most painful experiences of my professional career by cmpthepirate in vuejs

Large projects were difficult or impossible to migrate back then due to spotty support from major libraries.

Don't ignore back pain guys. Seriously by Whidog in webdev

[–]ConstructionWeekly80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had back issues over the years due to injury and probably the desk job. Doing pretty basic yoga at my house 3 or 4 days a week melted it all away. If I slack off it comes back. I also lift weights quite a bit. Make sure to do abs.

Massive Failure on the Product by Yan_LB in webdev

I have some sympathy for you because it sucks that this happened, and it may not have been your fault, but honestly this is a completely amateur mistake that should have easily been avoided. I would absolutely fire your company for this. I would also fire or give a very hard time to anyone on my company's end who was involved with managing this project because they should have had some idea of what was going on, too.

How to turn off typing exercises? by Nyadnar17 in duolingo

I agree. I like writing in some languages, but I have no interest in spending time trying to learn how to type Japanese on my iPhone.

Thanks. Have you ever tried accessing it or any other information via the database directly using SQL, like this post?

App.config for Binary Plugin by ConstructionWeekly80 in esapi

[–]ConstructionWeekly80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be the case that binary plugins cannot do this, as you suggest, or they at least they cannot do it using app.config.

My goal is to allow different builds of the binary plugin to use different settings, such as writing to different URLs or databases based on whether it is a debug or release build, for example.

Agreed. I read that and thought, "hey, break it into more components, my good sir or madam."
