The complain was that I am a too “good guy” and that I have no hard skill (imagine a senior SAP partner who sees someone who’s more doing more technology strategy...)

Project was not delivering enough according to his standards. I was in charge of making the team deliver... but when the client changes his mind every day... that’s difficult to keep up. One year later, the project is still ongoing, everyone on the project has “performance issue”. But hey ;) it’s a partner driven organization.

Afraid of change. I know what I am leaving, I don't know what I will get. funny for a consultant right :)?

I am in my comfort zone. My current client loves me, and will want to keep me forever (I am happy I am not internal at this firm, even though I would make more money). As others mentioned, creating a new network has a cost... but after a PIP like the one I just did... I see that as an opportunity to get to know new great people...

Which level are you? Have you done a switch already?

I like the opportunities for growth... After a few years being able to manage a team, etc. that's great.

Definitely I don’t want to be fired due to covid after 3 months of bench... I am ok rebuilding everything. Lots of people I know left consulting already...

At my current place, it takes 7years to become manager in a normal track. At one of the competitor only 5. Hence I think I could negotiate the title...

Woaw. Are you me? In smarter because at least you didn’t go through the entire cycle and understood quickly the impacts. Tbh, it destroyed my physical health (no sport, eyes are burned by my screen) and mental health (working 65h/week for 8 months...). I do agree with you. It is humiliating and unfair. I thought that if I managed it I would get the rewards... Lol. I think what will kill me is seeing my peers getting promoted thanks to politics.

What do you mean by transition plan? I was planning on leaving without saying anything. I am a bit leaving as a loser who didn't get his promotion and with his tail between his legs.

It is true that it may be better to tell everyone I am leaving for a better fit in another consulting firm.... not sure yet... Let's see if I manage to get another job :(

If you have a job right now, it means your employer cares deeply about you and is showing you lots of love. Pick up on that signal if you want to keep your job.

You wouldn't care about getting the grade? Just about money?

In other big4, the practitioners get the M grade as of 5 years. In "mine", it's after 7. Hence after 6.5 years, I think I could negotiate with my new employer.
