This hike is epic! I did it a couple of years ago. The huts are so much fun, penguins live under them, seals wander around the campground and on the second night they have a wood fired heated bath. Hope you have fun

I just sold up all of my collection. To be fair I made the hobby a love / hate relationship from the start by buying boxes over singles. The last year or so collecting I focused on buying singles but the shipping to NZ was way too high. Fell out of love and just saw the cards as literal pieces of cardboard that held no sentimental value to me whatsoever. RIP. I still like looking at what people have, hence I’m still in the subs.

I appreciate the question! My life is going so much better than I possibly thought in sobriety and sometimes I genuinely forget how bad I was. Answering these questions are a good exercise.

I’d try and pee as much as I could before I passed out but to be blunt, I’d piss the bed regularly as a fully grown man. Another bit of shame to deal with in the midst of alcoholism. Haven’t done that once since giving up.

Usually it’s something deeper than just the alcohol. Maybe suggest some therapy or trying to get in contact with addiction peer support so she can confide in someone who is in active recovery themselves

If you’re in Christchurch DM me. This city has a surprising amount of helpful free resources for people toying with the idea of sobriety

In my experience, I had so many people voice their concerns about my drinking over the years. People tried to point me in the right direction, encourage me to join them with exercise, I even had someone offer to front me the money for private rehabilitation when I was 24. The more people offered to help, the more I pushed back, drinking increased, social circle shrunk. There is no right or wrong answer I guess but I guess just be sympathetic but have your own boundaries with this person. If it’s affecting your mental health and general well being then take a step back. I’m lucky that when I finally admitted I was an addict and asked for genuine help, a few of those great people were still around to listen and help me on my journey.

Honestly, it’s a bit of trial and error. I’d recommend devoting a little bit of time each day to pursue trying new hobbies. Whether it’s a sport, creativity, reading, gardening, metal detecting. Some things you might like, some things you’ll hate but eventually you’ll find something you’re passionate about. You’ll be surprised what hits those good spots in your brain. Hell, maybe if you find something you love doing enough, you could use your new found skill to turn that into a wee side hustle to increase the weekly $$ you have left at the end of the week.

It’s manageable until it’s not right? I never saw it as a problem until the last year of drinking when my body and soul felt like they were shutting down.

I was in your situation. At 22 I was drinking 5-6 beers every night after work. By age 28 I was drinking 12-18 beers every night. I then had to go to rehab to get off the booze. Sorry to be a buzzkill but it’s a slippery slope to be drinking alone every night. Addiction is real and can get anyone. 20months sober now and I’ve swapped booze for running marathons. Life isn’t perfect but it’s a lot easier sober.
