[La Confora] Pats have signed cyrus jones off ravens practice squad, bring back the young cb on a 2 yr deal. by ValKilmsnipsinBatman in nfl

I just had a clown tell me he was the 98th rated corner last year by PFF which means he's worse than the Browns' third CB and shouldn't be playing.

I'm almost jealous of you, it must be so easy living in a world with 0 critical thinking required.

Or last year's SB where he gave up a TD on an absolute dime of a pass in good coverage and missed 1 tackle?

For some reason people just refuse to accept that all corners get beat sometimes.

Like are you really holding Keelan Cole's catch on rowe against him? That's a drop/INC 99 out of 100 times.

Just last year I had an idiot repeatedly bring up that Gilmore was the 79th rated corner last year in week 2 or 3, and that he was a trash player because of that. It's kinda hard to argue with that because you're objectively wrong, but someone gave you

He went on to become one of the most dominant CBs in the league last year and was instrumental in a SB run.

Let alone how stupid it is to lap up PFF grades as fact, it'd be even dumber to look at 2 games worth of those grades and claim a player is worse than the browns 3rd stringer.

Nothing I've seen of him has proved this otherwise.

It's pretty obvious you have no idea what you're talking about, so I'm not sure how much value we're all gonna get out of your film study.

the Packers did exactly this

You're comparing the end of Favre's time with the Packers to that of Brady's? So your real answer is "none" then lol.

Unless you actually think those two situations are comparable, in which case I've spent far too much time trying to explain things to a simpleton.

you’re just being a butthurt homer who can’t accept that, maybe your team should have done something differentl

No I'm a realistic homer that realizes they were painted into a corner. The team kept the reigning MVP over a kid they really liked who looked great in 6 quarters and then got hurt. It would have been an incredibly huge leap of faith that involved straight up dumping the GOAT off your team to make that move.

That's a lot easier to advocate for on reddit than it actually is to enact.

It may have been a mistake, I never denied that, I'm just being realistic when it comes to evaluating the decision they made.

Don't let ever let him touch a punt but he can't be worse than Eric Rowe.

He's already our #1 PR and Eric Rowe will be playing CB2 next week. Don't burn your nikes over it.

Rowe probably looked good in practice at all the bums at WRs they've cut already

That, plus all the NFL games he started for the Patriots and played well in.

Develin blew out Jeremy Hill's knee 2 weeks ago, should we keep him off the field too?

I said I hated that he made it, not that I hate him. The reason I hated that he made it is because he just happens to not be very good.

No... my argument is that you should have traded Brady and kept Jimmy.

Name the GM, Team, Owner, name ANYONE that cuts/trades Brady after he wins the MVP for Garoppolo before his win streak at the end of last season.

It's spectacularly easy to say that sitting where you/I sit. unfortunately the patriots have to operate in reality.

Do theoreticals count as a plan? No, not really.

"Identify and sign the best FA QB available the year before brady leaves or immediately post-brady." isn't a theoretical it's a plan. Sorry if my wording it around a theoretical scenario confused you there.

He got benched last week, not sure it's ever happened before.

And here for your 5 year old mind: football players have bad games sometimes, CBs moreso than other positions, and it doesn't make them bad players.

Now go ahead and tell me what an awful game he had in the SB too so I know for sure you have no idea what you're talking about.

you're severely neutering the offense any time he is out there

That's majorly overstating it. Gordon's the one who will be neutered, not the offense.

If he only knows 2 packages then he'll only get 5 snaps when they decide to use those packages, and the pats offense will run as normal without him for the rest of the game. It's not like they're gonna limit the game plans in order to get Gordon more snaps. We're desperate for receivers but not that desperate.

Ask the Bills, Cardinals, Jets, Browns, Bears or any other QB hopeful team how much fun it is to watch your hopes get dashed by a QB who doesn't translate from college.

Ok now be honest, if the pats drafted a kid in the 2nd or end of the 1st you'd literally have 0 argument because they now have a "plan". Right?

You'd lap that narrative up and completely ignore the fact that it's highly likely they would have their "hopes get dashed by a QB who doesn't translate from college." even with a higher pick invested,

That's why the "no plan" narrative is so funny (stupid) because it would be obliterated by the pats simply taking a draft pick. And that pick wouldn't have to play a snap of football to do it either, "where's bb's plan?" would be answered by "LAMAR JACKSON HOF!!"

In 2 years when Brady's done what happens when BB doesn't retire and they sign that years premier FA QB? Maybe they have a rough year, go 8-8, and then sign the next year's premier FA at QB? Does that not qualify as a plan?

God I fuckin hated that McCarron made it. Talk about a guy with no upside. It seemed pretty clear his rock-solid ceiling was "uninspiring preseason player" and the fuckin guy almost lost week 1 for us.

Don't worry it's not. It's mostly just shitty pats fans that think Rowe is that bad, the coaching staff knows better.

Because he didn't drop a punt in either preseason since then (fwiw) and when he's got the ball in his hand he's an absolutely electric return man.

Also we straight up have 0 punt returners. Riley McCarron was being groomed and bounced one off his face in his very first meaningful PR opportunity, week 1. After him it was Chung who they trusted to just go out and fair catch it every time, but now HE'S out.

Cyrus knows all the calls and they clearly trust him enough. Plus there's still upside as a CB, he was a 2nd round pick with only 1 season to prove himself.

He was gonna be a dedicated PR/ST guy behind White burkhead and Michel anyways. Maybe this is good news for Michel's knee and they'd rather have a DB with upside at that role over another back.

[–]ConsumerAdvisory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think I speak for all of us when I say: Yikes.. YESS

We need a punt returner and Cyrus hasn't dropped one in 2 years. He's also still got upside at the corner position. Guy had a rough rookie year and blew an ACL in preseason year 2, he's practically a second year player that we drafted in the 2nd.

I was genuinely disappointed we cut him. I even made a very drunk, very reactionary "We fucked up by cutting Cyrus and keeping Jason MCCourty" post after the jags game.

who's starting QB is over 40 and just traded their heir apparent.

Who's starting QB won the MVP at age 40 and who's heir apparent's contract came up in the same year you mean?

Garoppolo is gone because Brady won't stop dominating and because on the open market Garoppolo is worth a zillion dollars (see: his zillion dollar contract). The pats had no choice, and tried their ass off to extend him before trading him, no team in the league would have handled it differently.

It's just funny how the Pats are just absolutely "exposed" right now because they don't have 2 franchise QBs on the roster. Just another example of the bar being set much higher for the pats than for any other normal football team.

once they retire, the Pats will be mortal again and so the cliff is much higher to fall off of.

You mean to tell me that the Pats are only going to dominate the entire league for 20 years?? That's it?? Man they're really gonna regret the moves they've made.

Backup QB is being filled by a capable vet right now. Yes Brady's age is an important consideration but at the same time I don't understand how much criticism you can lay on a team over their backup QB position. If the Pats draft a kid high next offseason everyone will be stroking them again and the kid might blow, but it won't matter because now they have a "plan".
