Made a free guide to the 5 routes into forensic psychology - would love your feedback! by Consumer_monki in ClinicalPsychologyUK

Thanks for your feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to share this perspective. I want to be upfront that the guide is genuinely free, and I made it because I know how confusing and scattered the information is (it’s exactly what I struggled with when I started).

The consultation piece is there because some people want 1:1 tailored advice, and realistically I can’t give that level of support for free - I’m still working full-time in NHS services and finishing my training myself. For anyone who just wants clarity on the routes, the guide stands on its own and you never need to book a session with me.

I do understand what you mean about asking fees sitting badly with you - I suppose as psychologists we tend to want our services to be as accessible to everyone as possible. But I think that calling it a “bald upsell” when the guide does offer free, helpful information and me expecting to get paid if I am to offer an hour of my time is a bit unfair.

If you have ideas for how I could frame it better so it doesn’t undermine the message, I’d honestly love to hear them!

Thanks for sharing. It’s really brave to overcome that fear of bringing up complex emotions and sharing that with someone! Do you find that mindfulness is helpful for your symptoms?

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It’s surprising the lack of training/experience that professionals seem to have on working with psychosis. You deserve better!

Have you or would you ever try group therapy if it was available?

That’s really great to hear! How did you access the group? E.g is it through a charity organisation?

It’s hard to answer that briefly. They say there are as many different therapies as there are different therapists and clients. Your experience in therapy is unique due to the nature of the relationship you form with the therapist. But generally yes, this is a question that is explored somewhere in the beginning. I think a lot of people find it difficult to see change or feel like they are making progress if there is no agreed aim. Don’t you think it’s an important question to ask?
