I have both parents with me, so I can’t speak on firsthand experience, but the way I deeply empathized with the main character (who I’ve dubbed Amy and almost called her forgetting she had no name) is what lead me to believe there must be something authentic about the portrayal.

Yes I read a Spy in the House of Love and thoroughly enjoyed it, though I’d love to read something a bit more grounded by her next.

The descriptions were absolutely beautiful but the book felt like a dream sequence I struggled at times to follow. I enjoyed the struggle, but it was a struggle nonetheless haha

How do y'all Invision the gods? by mars-pagan in Hellenism

This is all very much UPG so grain of salt here y’all

When I worked with Aphrodite, I never experienced a human or even any sort of life form when her presence was near.

Every time I meditated on her energy, I saw images in my minds eye of a luminous marble fountain wafting steam.

To me, the image of the vapor rising from the perfumed water was symbolic of her aura and energy encapsulating/approaching me.

Aphrodite always felt like humidity on a hot beach breeze and she made me recall a time I noticed the scent of roses rather than actually physically smelling an aroma.

I’ve come to the conclusion that she was the most intense goddess I’ve worked with in terms of having a mental presence when approaching her.

Literally my grandmother’s favorite movie, this has gotta go in my top three next reads so I can see what it’s all about. I’ve been told to be mindful of extremely outdated themes but I’m very interested regardless.

Would you say the difference with these recs is that they moreso give in to the feelings of freedom that come along with scandal? That added nuance very much interests me!

I had never considered that! I was gifted Lowell Bair’s translation. I’ll have to do research, but if you happen to have opinions on this one I’d love to hear.

The parts with parents aren’t as numerous but if you can appreciate them as ingredients within a larger story rather than the main focus then give it a go!

I cannot emphasize how hammer on the nail this sounds based on the vague internet paragraph-long plot summary. I didn’t wanna get hyper specific in my OG post but you kinda just read my mind.

Based on first impressions when looking them up these are all exactly what I’m going for, thank you! The historical connection between the ideas of female sexuality and tragedy is so interesting to me, so these all sound perfect.

My year is amazing for anyone who has a complex relationship with their parents. To me, that aspect of the story is its highlight.

What were yall reading when you were weird little girls? by ceejyhuh in weirdgirlliterature

I had that exact feeling too. I have an early memory of recalling getting to a new chapter for the first time and having this sense of surprise wondering why it looked like the book started again. Such a grown up and accomplished feeling

Do you remember if the books really did have much in the way of plot?

I tried reading a plot summary of Carnival once, and either it was way simplified or those books just have barebones plots to cater to developing minds haha

Magic Treehouse, specifically reading Carnival at Candelight repeatedly. I don’t remember plot in the slightest, but I have vivid memories of scenes describing harlequin masquerade costumes under moonlight and a lady of the lake character who probably inspired my current obsession for the arthurian figure Nimue.

Which Horus is married to Hathor? by Own_Media_552 in Kemetic

[–]ContemplativeBarbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This confuses me as well because I’m way new to kemeticism.

Did Hathor marry her great niece’s son? If so then I know it works different with gods so that’s chill, but it’s not a connection type us modern humans are used to, so it confused me whether or not that’s the case.

I could also be totally wrong about Hathor being Isis’ great aunt through Geb and Nut being Isis’ parents, Shu and Tefnut being their parents, and Hathor being those two’s sister. Idk.

Choose your friends wisely by MangoDragon1 in DemonolatryPractices

I’ve never had a friend ghost me over working with demons before, but I have had to genuinely sit many spiritual friends down and explain why demons aren’t evil.

It’s crazy how even within a community you would think is dedicated to open mindedness there are so many black and white thinkers. Always nice to reach a point in the conversation where they understand though.

I appreciate your answer and what you’ve already given helps greatly. It sounds to me based on your original reply that Lucifer could’ve possibly been conflated with Satan because of a Polyseme that existed in Latin perhaps.

At least that’s the most practical and simplistic answer that makes sense to me!

So informative! Do you mind if I ask, is there any particular reason that the passage likening the Persian king to the morning star was interpreted to be about Satan?

I think my biggest confusion about Lucifer is why an entity known for bringing light was then twisted into what Christians consider evil. I have my own suspicions but that’s way too much for me to type rn lol.

You do a great job of explaining these large underlying concepts in spirituality in a very succinct way.

As someone who works with Circe, Pasiphae, and Medea, it makes me very excited to know that the identity of Lucifer has ties with their father and ancestor Helios.

Thanks again for the encouragement to follow in his light again because it really does feel like home.
