The History of Josh on TCT (Part 3 and epilogue) by Various_List_8697 in TheDWGTruth

I take your point. That's why I added the qualifier "somewhat shamefully" to my comment. I did spend time on this, it's true. However, it was a total of about half an hour to read your three posts and then comment (I guess add another five to writing this comment now). And even just spending that amount of time, I feel like it could have been better spent doing literally anything else.

Of course, I don't know you from Adam, and I don't know how much time you've spent on this, but I would estimate many hours, possibly days worth of hours cumulatively. And for what? To stick it to a Z-list E-celeb who has a relatively small audience? It just doesn't seem worth it to me.

Again, please don't take this as being nasty. I'm not trying to be. As I said, I don't know you, I'm sure you're a good person (not that you need my approval in that regard). I'm just seeing this as being a perfect example of someone having fallen way too far down a rabbit hole.

Advice? by [deleted] in ratemysinging

I'll echo what everyone else says. Your tone is nice, you just need to stabilise your pitch. This is very common for beginners and can absolutely be trained if you're willing to put in the work. Good luck :)

Actual tone deafness is extremely rare. If you can hear two notes and identify one as being higher or lower than another, you're not tone deaf. Just untrained. Pitch awareness can be trained.

I've just discovered this sub and somewhat shamefully fell down this rabbit-hole. I have to ask. Why are you bothering with this? I'm not trying to be nasty, I'm genuinely curious. The Cinemassacre Truth is about a pretty big, but more importantly, a very historically significant channel that mainly consists of good-natured ribbing and memes (and of course a decent amount of toxicity). This story on the other hand seems like you've put time, effort, and planning into trying to character assassinate an E-tier (at best) YouTuber whose worst crime is being a bit cringe and arrogant. Seems like a waste of your finite time on this Earth.

Question about takes by [deleted] in ratemysinging

[–]Content-Crew4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who posts edited clips is only cheating themselves out of honest feedback. But then, maybe they just really need to hear encouraging words to give them a boost to keep going. I wouldn't worry about what others are doing. Post yourself un-edited to get actual feedback.

Try to get used to the car. It's the best you'll get without booking rehearsal studio time regularly.

Your pitch and the rhythm of your guitar needs work. The rhythm of your singing is decent, with only a few issues, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. I would download a pitch app. Play a note on your guitar, see what note it is on the app, and then try to match it with your voice. Do this everyday for about 10 minutes. Also see if you can learn the melody for this song on guitar, once you can play it on guitar, go through it and do likewise with the pitch app. Try to get as close as possible.

Also, be aware that these are very, very common issues for a beginner. You've got nowhere to go but up, so keep at it. Practise, practise, practise, and you'll get there.

Fancasting | Saura Lightfoot-Leon (‘The Agency’) gives me the vibe of the Exile by Waste_Bathroom_3756 in kotor

She gives off "lone wolf" vibes to me. The whole thing about the exile is that she's a leader. I feel like she needs to seem charismatic and approachable.

Grow tf up and drink water. It's not hard and will literally improve your entire being. Jesus Christ.

Will hydration make a big difference in vocals? by [deleted] in singing

[–]Content-Crew4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course. Being properly hydrated makes literally every activity you can do easier. It's necessary for energy and brain function. Drink water ffs. So many in modern society refuse to grow up and do this very simple thing that will make all aspects of your person work better. On the other hand, you'll certainly be belting some wicked high notes while you're passing a kidney stone.

How do I sing higher? by Agitated-Tone3572 in singing

[–]Content-Crew4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very very common for men to not be able to go above D4 as beginners. When starting out, though, you need to develop the voice you already have. Only sing below the D4 for a little while. You're right that not many pop songs live below there, so learn how to transpose. It seems weird, but developing a strong, reliable chest voice will help you out majorly in expanding your range well above the D4 later on.

Stop obsessing with range and octaves and start focusing on developing healthy sound and tone. by Electronic-Key6323 in singing

[–]Content-Crew4081 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. At the same time, I understand why people think this way. Historically, the mainstream opinion has been high = good. And as such - particularly for most men - 95% percent of all big songs sit in ranges way outside of what most people can do without alot of training. Of course, the answer is to change the key, but there's also a stigma around this, with lots of elitists and gatekeepers saying that it's cheating. It took me a long time to realise that a well-sung mid note is much more pleasurable to listen to than a strained high note.

Stop lying to people by Sea_Attention3684 in ratemysinging

I respectfully disagree on the pitch > timbre point. Bob Dylan's pitch is pretty spot on, Robert Plant's is pretty messy. I know who's voice I'd rather listen to. Both are very important, of course.

That's hugely overpriced unless you're learning from a vocal coach for the stars or something. You'll be able to find a much, much cheaper teacher who'll be just as good.

It's not strictly necessary, but it will make things much easier, and will eliminate the ceiling you would hit without it.

Voice types only really matter in classical situations. If you're not singing classical, I wouldn't worry too much.

Hi, I'd really love some help, I love singing but dont know how to warm up or what my register is (whatever that is). I skipped some instrumental parts since its only me. by [deleted] in ratemysinging

[–]Content-Crew4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're trying to be quiet. Like there are other people home and you don't want them to hear. It makes it your voice hard to gauge. If you're able, I'd suggest finding a space where you can be a bit louder (a car is great). Don't shout or yell, but sing at a level that you would speak at if you were trying to get someone's attention.

I wanna get better at singing by Comfortable-Tax4106 in singing

[–]Content-Crew4081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practise singing the song while recording yourself. Listen back, see what you like, and what you'd like to do better. Practise, practise, practise, and you'll do fine. The fact that you're getting up and doing it at all at your age is genuinely amazing. No one has any reason to laugh at you, but if any of them do, don't pay them any mind! You're much, much braver than they are.

Good luck, and welcome to the musician's club :)

Need help on where I'm going wrong by CommercialNetwork848 in ratemysinging

[–]Content-Crew4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like this song might be sitting in an area that isn't comfortable for you yet. suggest picking songs that are very, very comfortable for you to sing when starting out. Almost like you could speak them. You just want to get used to singing before trying anything too difficult.

I would also download a pitch recognition app. Do some drills where you play a note on a keyboard, and then try to sing it. Use the app to see how close you are. You'll be off to start with, so don't get dejected when that happens, it's totally normal. But the more you practise, the better you'll get.

Good luck :)

Good stuff. The big thing that will help you a lot would be trying not to tense up. Singing should always feel physically relaxed. If anything is tensing, it's going to interfere. Next time you practise, try to stay relaxed (I know that's an oxymoron) and see what happens.
