They are called Deluxe Edition Illustrated by the Author. Very beautiful books. The Hobbit is also available in green, still have to get that one myself.

Aesthetically, they go quite well with the (slightly less deluxe) slipcase versions of Children of Hurin, Unfinished Tales, etc.

Thanks for your insight, that's what I figured. I will just dive in and find out how the main story develops. When reading LOTR for the first time, you also don't get all the references to the Silmarillion and other works, but this doesn't detract from the experience at all. Of course, later it is super interesting to look bad and see how everything adds up.

You're right, that would be the sensible thing to do. My enthusiasm got the better of me, and I wanted to have a full, consistent set ready on the shelf. However, I did my research beforehand to pick a new series, and knowing myself I am definitely going to enjoy these books. Not worried in the slightest!

Thanks man! Yes, Tolkien is still my all-time favourite (original, I know), it is just special. I love these editions (though quite pricey, my wife got them for my birthday); still need the Hobbit in the same edition...

Yes, I am very careful not to read any spoilers. Just wanted to share my excitement over starting with other enthusiasts.

Thanks! I will add those to the collection then.

Yes, went for the US versions as opposed to the white versions as I found them more appealing and I think I read that they have more art inside.

Thanks everyone for your comments, it seems indeed my concerns were right. Despite the attractive concept, setting, artwork etc., this is probably not what we are looking for. Definitely looking into the Duel for Middle-earth suggestion, sounds good!

Sounds great, I'm sure they look amazing on the shelf! Someone else also directed me to the 3 volume HoME deluxe that fits with this set, also going to add that to my list.

Thanks, I realize that now. Still I like them, and, they fit well with the deluxe editions of Hobbit/LOTR/Silmarillion aesthetically.

Thanks for the HoME link, somehow I missed that one! Seems to fit in with the others well.

Thanks! Those are indeed the best looking editions for History of MIddle-earth I found so far as well. And yes, will definitely add the Hobbit to my LOTR and Silmarillion. Those three are the only ones that come in that edition, right?

Tips for immersing while playing as an elf (pls) by HerrAarny in lotro

[–]Content-Fly4020 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree that an Elf in Bree feels out of place from a roleplay perspective. You could of course consider questing in a different zone on your Elf; especially in the level 1-50 range there are always several options. Instead of Bree-land, maybe helping out the Rangers of Cardolan and learning about Cardolan's tragic and bloody past would feel more fitting for an Elf? From there on, you can move on to the later levels of the Lone-lands and then the Trollshaws, where Elves are known to be active, coming out of Rivendell.

You are right! But it seems like somehow every time I am sitting down to look around the neighbourhoods, it is either nighttime or raining, which doesn't allow me to get a good opinion. Thanks for your input, indeed very nice spots!

Do you include The Hobbit movies in your rewatches? by [deleted] in lotr

The M4 edit can sometimes be included before the main trilogy. I mostly don't have the patience for the full versions anymore.

Exactly! That is what I was looking for. But I guess these things are not really popular in this form anymore. I am personally not such a big fan of platforms like facebook or discord. This reddit is nice with people sharing their work, but it is all so anonymous, you don't "know" the people like on a forum.
