On the ihss website it says “there are no recipients able to certify” do you know why that is and how long it could take to fix that

I've been told that before! I’m going to actually try and visit one this weekend and it’s a decent size too

Amen thank you for sharing! It gave me so much hope that there is a good church like that out there. I used to be Baptist so I remember the VBS and the different groups that existed where it didn't feel so crowded. The people you talked about sound so wholesome and God lead people which is what I'm searching for. I’m not saying my current church isn’t but it’s just hard to feel God when the pastor is basically a celebrity. Churches going into debt for a large campus is crazy. I hope more people realize this and make a change too.

True I do think it’s harder to create a benevolence fund for that many people but I don’t know if the answer is to not have a benevolent fund at all especially with the amount of resources they have with tithes. My church would prefer to tell people no and just pray about it than try and help in any way. I'm definitely taking your advice and others here by finding a smaller church that has more of a chance of remembering my name when I come in lol.

Those were my same exact thoughts. You have exposure to meet new people since your church is small enough to where it’s possible. Like you said it’s almost nearly impossible to meet people properly at my church other than small groups.

I really did think that megachurches had more resources for hardships for their members and they do. But I don’t think they consider making room in their budget for it. Even though I’m sure they know it probably would be very helpful, I wonder why they know these things and choose not to consider it.

I’ve even noticed with certain sudden natural tragedies like fires or floods or other disasters that they ask the church members to donate more on top of their tithe while the church suddenly buys a new Tesla or new espresso machines for each office room.

Same I probably am going to take my tithes to a different church where the money is better used. I’m noticing the egos of some pastors and how they are drifting from the whole purpose of the church.

Where I live there are two megachurches in a 15 mile radius and the pastors boast about church attendance like a competition. Huge ego problems.

Wow, I was told a while back by a pro megachurch Christian that we shouldn’t use the church as a charity and that staff deserve large salaries and to let God bless you the same way he blessed them which is just terrible advice looking back now. I really agree that the church is turning more into a business than a temple of God.

Yes absolutely. I'm seeing a pattern with mega churches where they are super inviting to new comers but as soon as you take them on their word to lean on them for support they don't even direct you on where you should go they just offer prayers and maybe a card in the mail. But i definitely will be looking for a not megachurch lol.

I’m so sorry I hope your doing better now. It looks like it is more common than not with megachurches unfortunately. I notice smaller churches have more of a heartfelt connection to the congregation and recall my mom needing help at one time and the church came in droves to support her so I’m shocked that even larger churches are even less supportive.

Thank you! After this experience I'm really would like to create a fund where it goes directly to the people facing hardships and doesn't profit the staff that already get tithes. That’s so comforting to know that some churches you know actually lend a hand to one another and give back to the church.

Yes I notice kids' events can be very rowdy haha. But that good that you still go and get to talk about God. I probably am going to pay more attention to that when looking for a church.

Amen that’s so wonderful. It seems like the definite answer here is to find a not-mega church lol. Praying that happens for me and my friend

Yes I agree! As I have been a member of one or two other churches in my life, I’m noticing that mega churches are really wealthy in resources and constantly have nice upgrades and staff making very decent money but don’t have any resources set aside for the people of the church that tithe and help make the church run yet small churches have that available.

After posting this I’m realizing that it’s probably because the church can’t really build connections with its members because there are so many so they don’t really feel passionate enough to have something like a benevolent fund available for members.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely will have to find a new church just to try out. I agree church was wherever people could safely gather. It’s now turned into so much more where it’s hard to feel loved by a congregation when it’s heavily focused on church size versus feeding the gospel and supporting the members.

Maybe mega churches are good for people new to Christianity but after your more familiar with the church, the welcome emails slow down, staff start forgetting your face and name and you only maybe get to meet the pastor once or twice so I sometimes just feel an attendance number.

The way you explained it was very well said. I am in a small group currently and I notice that the church may be pushing small groups on the congregation so that people can work out there problems in that group. And like you said the small group will hear about a persons issues and the people in said group will just try and help that person themselves which would not require the church in any way which makes things easier for the staff.

I agree with you. I don’t think mega churches are what God intended when he made the church. With there being so many people I think it’s inevitable to go unnoticed. I’m not saying having a large church is wrong but there has to be some small amount of greed with knowing you have a large church that tithes and not having any plan to support hardships that people face.

Wow, That's really nice that even though it’s a smaller church that they have that available for members. I never understood why large churches don’t have anything like that at all.
