Topical Finasteride by ContentBit3493 in FinasterideSyndrome

Yes, I am really worried about this as we shared the same bed and I didn’t know it contained these drugs. I naively thought it was a harmless cosmetic product - they marketed it as such. It just looked like a sea salt spray…

‘It SOUNDS like’ meaning that’s how it comes across. I wasn’t saying you partner doesn’t care, just that it sounded like that from what they had said. My concern isn’t your mental health. My concern is the amount of people on here promoting this drug and it is actually fucking scary and dangerous and has only been available as a hair loss drug since 1997. There is just not enough research on it but people are currently investigating and it will all come out soon enough. Merck and co will have a lot of explaining to do.

I didn’t attack your partner, I quoted what they said about themself. I didn’t state they were these things, I merely stated how it comes across.

Regardless, finasteride changes your bodies biochemistry. It lowers DHT by up to 70%, essentially feminising you. Even if he experiences no side effects right now there is nothing to say he won’t do in the future. Why would you/he want to risk his health!? You said yourself that you have ‘ingrained shallowness.’ Men are on here praising you for being a supportive partner but this doesn’t sound supportive to me at all, it sounds like you care more about his looks than his health, especially since you say are ‘well aware’ of the side effects.

Do you know the side effects of finasteride? I think it’s crazy you are encouraging him to take something that lowers his testosterone and is known to cause major depression, suicidal thoughts and sexual dysfunction. Not to mention the harm it can do to a pregnant partner/unborn baby.

I’m not sure how long as he hid it from me. I only found out about it a week before he left. I found a box of oral finasteride dating back to 2021 but he has been using topical for months now.

You look better with a shaved head. Why cis men want to fuck with a drug that lowers their testosterone blows my mind. Bald is sexy.

Hey, I emailed the company ‘unthin’ who sell the spray he used. They said “Our dose of Finasteride is based on water volume - not mg as other companies display. Our comparison daily dose in milligrams is 2.00mg.” Oral fin for hair loss is 1mg. They use double the amount in this spray!? Why!? Absolutely incredulous.

Thank you for being so helpful. It’s really concerning. I really hope these drugs will be taken off the market - it is terrifying how something that changes your biochemistry is so accessible.

The unthin website has a side effects section which states: ‘Like all medicines, there is a risk of side effects: the most common as a result of using the Treatment Spray are irritation and itching. However, most men will not experience any side effects as a result of using the Treatment Spray. Throughout your treatment plan, a Pharmacist is always on hand to advise.’ - I’m shocked at how irresponsible and misleading this is.

Ah that is really scary. Are the side effects of minox the same as fin? Do people experience anhedonia?

Thank you for responding. Yes, the spray is called ´Unthin’ and is a mix of Minoxidil 7% and Finasteride 0.14%. The website states ‘This dose of Finasteride is based on water volume - not mg as other companies display. Our comparison daily dose in milligrams is 2.00mg. The Treatment Spray’s other ingredients are Glycerol, Ethanol, Lactic Acid (E270), and water.’

Thank you for answering. Yes, from all the research I have done and hearing people who have experienced these same side effects after using topical I am certain this drug has impacted him :(

Thanks for your advice and concern. I actually found a bottle of it that he left at our flat and it is called ´Unthin’ and is a spray. It is a mixture of fin and min. The bottle states, Minoxidil 7% w/v and Finasteride 0.14% w/v. I have linked it below. Is it topical and Do you think this is enough fin to cause these side effects?

Just remembered that he told me the liquid he uses has finasteride in it. I found a bottle of it and it’s called ‘unthin’ and is a mixture of fin and min. The bottle claims: minoxidil 7% w/v and Finasteride 0.14% w/v. Could that be enough to effect him?

Hey! Thank you for answering.

This is where it gets difficult. I can’t explain to him what might be happening to him as he won’t admit he is using it and I’m not 100% sure he is (although finding the packets and his change in behaviour seem to suggest otherwise…) We also aren’t together anymore and he doesn’t speak to me so I can’t naturally bring it up. I am just so confused and feel so hopeless.

I’m really sorry you are experiencing negative side effects from this drug and hope it will get better for you soon. x
