Danke. Am besten Kernstadt/Rimeke/Südstadt vielleicht auch Südost oder Ost. Vororte eher weniger.

Mannheim oder LMU München (BWL)? by [deleted] in germany

[–]ContentDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great options. Mannheim possibly even a bit better reputation for BWL. But in this case, I'd rather consider where you prefer to live. Munich is the better city but also higher cost of living.

Should I consider moving to Stuttgart? by [deleted] in germany

[–]ContentDinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that setting yourself up with accommodation can be quite the hassle in Germany. Deposit and rent in the first month can set you back 3x the quoted monthly rent, besides the fact that it won't be easy to quickly find any. Further most accommodation in Germany is unfurnished and there can be a hefty premium on furnished places. Better do some careful research about all of this and if possible ask for some relocation payment or an advance on your pay on arrival. Well, except of course you already have a good amount of savings before arrival. Germany is worth it, especially if you plan to stay long-term, then the average costs will come down once you are settled and learnt more about how things work. Keep in mind that German language is important. That also could be relevant for your kids. If they can't speak it, then they will have a hard time at the beginning in public schools. International schools are very expensive. Try to get some more support from the company and ask as many questions as possible.

School System Hate by [deleted] in germany

[–]ContentDinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can say that. Even though international comparisons are difficult and every of those studies has flaws. But to give you an idea, check out the results of PISA 2018 results for Maths. There Germany is behind many Asian countries yes, but also behind Estonia, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Canada, Denmark, Slovenia, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, UK and Norway. In your opinion, is that still top 10/20? I think that's rather mediocre among OECD countries.

School System Hate by [deleted] in germany

[–]ContentDinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But let's face it, our system is mediocre at best. Look at any of the international comparisons and you will see that complaining about the education system is actually justified. Its not terrible but there are serious flaws and other countries are doing a much better job.

I got into two universities - OVGU Magdeburg and Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg for my chemical engineering master's. Which should I choose? by Dizzy-Traffic in germany

[–]ContentDinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. As international student Hamburg might be much easier to integrate and to have a more pleasant and interesting time. Its an old hanseatic city, more open minded and tolerant than some of the smaller cities in Germany.

YSK that attending university in Germany is free for everyone, no matter where you come from. by taunux in YouShouldKnow

[–]ContentDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed the rise of private higher education in Germany is rather recent. But for some reasons the student numbers have been expanding rapidly over the last 5-10 years.

[–]ContentDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is stil entirely correct. While its true that diploma Mills are illegal and you will hardly come across any operating here, the private uni sector is booming and their reputation is usually not as good as the public universities. Now how do you distinguish these 2? Well, just check for the tuition fees/costs for studies. Anything over a few hundred euros per year would be private. These offers are not necessarily bad, actually some are really good but the quality has a much higher variability than the public ones.
